Alcohol 1.4.6.771, Safedisc2.90, Liteon

hi all

I've read (perharps not enough accurately ) almost all posts about doing backup of safedisc 2.90 CDs with lastest alcohol, and liteon burners...
I've read that someone did a backup that work only in few readers, other says the copy never work, other says the copy works in all readers....

hm...

in alcohol, safedisc 2 default profile has the hidden option "read pre-gap area" off, can this be the key for do a very good copy?

is this hidden option useful or is here just for fun, lol?

someone that failed making the backup with default safedic 2 profile can confirm this? (editing AxType.ini and turning read pregap on?)

does read pregap option helps with alcohol SD2.9 and liteon burners?

and the bypass EFM error? it has always been OFF with liteon burners...

thanks to everybody will try

I have been trying also to backup Safedisc 2.90 using a Plextor Premium drive. This drive isn't supposed to need "Bypass EFM Errors". I couldn't get the backup copy to work reliably in all my drives until a switched "Bypass EFM errors" on in the Alcohol check box. Try it, it may work for you as well.

Whether the plextor premium is a 2 sheep or a very good 1 sheep writer seems open to question.

Posts about this writer seem to suggest that, like many previous plextor models, it varies as between individual writers (some have been successful without weak sector enhancement whilst others have failed; some seem to have failed even with weak sector enhancement).

This seems to suggest that (again like many previous plexxies) it really is a very good one sheep writer (when viewed overall) rather than a true 2 sheep model and that it's a matter of pot luck as to how good the efm capabilities of any individual writer may happen to be (i.e. some can do it without weak sector enhancement, some require it and some can't do it at all).

As to your question about pre-gap, it is not a useful option. Not all cdroms can read pre-gap, so alcohol has its own way of getting around this.

@philamber:

I disagree with you here, the Plextor Premium is a 2-Sheep burner, it can burn up to v2.8 any SD without problems, some then have even no problems with SD2.9, but SD2.9 includes a new pattern for the weak sectors, where also burneres which were able to do it before are not able to do it. For example the Lite-On52xxxx was one of this, it is even a worse copy than the one from the Plextor Premium (with both at full speed burning).

As I know sd 2.9 was introduced by an update patch, so there shouldn´t be a new pattern.

But if you know something new please tell.

well that doesn't mean that the SD2.9 released games can't contain new patterns, this has been before too a patch which update to a newer SD2 version but because there weren't the new patterns on the original disc this didn't matter for the update.

The new released games contain a new pattern: f.e. look here:
