DVDDecryptor hasn't failed me yet. And it's free.

Hi
& in my experience it's slow. Quality is not as good. Some of the latest DVD's will rip to hd, but then the problems start. DVDShrink won't touch it. Even if dual layer disc is used, I've encountered problems tranferring from hd to disc.
But hey it's free.
On average I find AnyDVD+ CloneDVD2 (when encountering problems the support for me has been second to none)takes less than half the time of the DVDDecryptor/DVDShrink route.

Use any tool that can deal with Arcoss protection (DVD43, DVDFab Decrypter) to rip the files to you hd and then Shrink them as usual.

Exactly. The point is that you do not have to pay at all for ripping stuff or if you do wanna pay for AnyDVD there's no need to also pay for CloneDVD as suggested.

Hi
I'm not sure of your point, maybe I'm missing something. I agree that both DVDDecrytor & DVDShrink are excellent. But in an ever increasing market of change, very few come even close to Elaborite Bytes & Slysoft for support.
In my opinion I got their products for free & paid for support facilities. Well worth it too.

Can't be that difficult since I'm referring to your statement:

which is not true.

Hi
Still not sure if you're referring to support, which in my case is true.(In fact this is probably true for most people).
Or the fact that when ripping to hard drive with DVDDecryptor (Ave time 9 min) then shrinking with DVDShrink ( Ave time 20 min) then writing (Ave time 6 min) is a lot slower then AnyDVD/ CloneDVD2 rip/shrink/write (Ave time 16 min) . Which has been my experience.

What? It is true. With DVDDecrypter & DVDShrink you need to rip to harddisk first. DVDShrink also needs longer to process a movie than CloneDVD2 does, not to mention the time needed to "scan" the whole disc before you can start.
AnyDVD & CloneDVD2 together are probably twice as fast than using DVDDecrypter & Shrink.

DVDShrink are about the same speed.

Re: Some new DVD's won't backup with DVD Shrink?

Speed is a direct result of quality settings. There are no shortcuts to a high-quality re-code. Since Clone doesn't really have quality settings, you take what you get. With Shrink set for top quality, it will be slower than Clone, but the results are clearly better on a large high-res screen. But Shrink can also be set to run as fast as Clone with similar results.

Re: Some new DVD's won't backup with DVD Shrink?

Alright, I stand corrected when you consider ripping time in Decrypter. Of course you can also use aforementioned free tools that act like AnyDVD so it's evened out again since you can encode with Shrink straight away too.

However, I do rip to HD in the background during my regular work ripping time does not show up in my personal equation. Considering support: I'm sure you'd be a amazed by the knowledge and response time of our guys over at the official DVD Shrink forums.
