| question about converting divx Hi , i hope someone can tell me why this occurs or what to look at. Just birefly what happens if i sue dvdsanta or nero and i have a divx file, even lets say 700 meg and then run it to burn it to DVD, it goes through the process to the end after 4 to 5 hrs it burns the disk and then i look at it, even before burning and chuck it on the dvd player or on the computer and watch the movie it s like it stops every 3 or 4 seconds, its not a smooth video it like if freezes for a millisecoond then continues, it happens every 3 or 5 secoonds. Its hard to explain this but yeah it just stops but this is only noticable ina motion screen , eg the camera moving or someone running or what ever but it happens through the whole movie where it just like stops then plays stops then plays. I have tried encoding it in different ways but the result is laways the same, if i encode and shrink dvds it is fine only the divx and avi i seem to see this issue. I use good dvd disks and i am lost as to what seems to be the issue. I convert on a amd xp 200 with raid o SATA disks and nothing running in the background. SAny help would be great , hope some one had this issue too. Slav |

| Re: question about converting divx Since you say your done the conversion many ways and the result tis the same, its either the original AVI having some problems or the media your using. You say your using good dvd disks, but what are they? Haver you tried different brands/types?

I t happens to all the Xvid and avi and divx stuff, if i use nero or dvd santa to convert to mpeg2 to burn, i tried using the tmpeg (the word slips my mind right now) to convetrt also, the problem is thta if i preview it before burning after 4 hrs of doing it it still shows me the problem. As for the burining i use Taiyo Yuden DVD-R Disks and a LG GSA 4120B Burner. This issue i foound happens to many of the conversions, if i just watch it beofre converting it plays okay. Its strange. ![]() | |

| Re: question about converting divx So the converted file on your HD has the problem. So what Codec for DivX and/or Xvid have you installed ? What are their actual versions ? If you have one of those u-beaut all-in-one codec paks installed, then almost guarenteed that will be you problem. Uninstal them and install the 2 codec ONLY that I say in the Tutorial.

| Re: question about converting divx I have found this before. I know this forum would have been closed for a while, but this is to do with you probably choosing to convert a NTSC file to PAL. Because of the difference in file make up 25fps (PAL) to 29.9fps(NTSC) - Something like that anyway, or it could be the other way around - It is to do with the program having to duplicate frames every few seconds in order to preserve the file format and keep the sound in sync.Try setting the file to do AUTO if possible when you convert as most DVD Players now - especially on the PC - support both formats Adam |

| Re: question about converting divx The majority of divx files I've converted Using Nero have been 23.9 FPS, whether converting to PAL or NTSC I've had the millisecond skip. Nero is not much chop for divx to DVD even VSO's divx to DVD has this problem. Chickenmans method as well as the TMPGEnc 2.5 plus method create smooth transitions to DVD. For an easy one click soloution Win Avi also produces smooth results. |
