Problems ripping Asian DVDs

I am trying to copy asian imports I bought at a mall kiosk but I am getting errors that stop ripping halfway through the process. It stops at the exact same point every time. I've tried DVD Decrypter, AnyDVD, CloneDVD2, DVDFab, and Alcohol 120%. Each Is there anything anyone can recommend? I would be grateful for any advice given.

Re: Problems ripping Asian DVDs

more info is needed.

what titles, regions, formats are the dvds you are trying to rip?

what versions of programs do you have that you are attempting to rip with?

exact error message narratives are needed.

what's the model of your ripper?

what firmware revision is installed?

also, for future reference, posting the same question in more than one forum is not allowed.

Re: Problems ripping Asian DVDs

Asian DVD's are usually bootlegs and don't have a region code. If they do then they would probably be region 3.

They have also been known to be supplied on bad cheap media which would cause problems when reading them.

Hey NWG. Do you have any solutions to my problem? The copy looks good when I play it. Is it possible to copy the movie?

Re: Problems ripping Asian DVDs

littlejon, you've supplied one log file from one program. you still need to answer the other questions if you're looking for help.

if you've bought bootlegs then we can't help you.

can you post the anydvd info window for one of your purchased titles?

Re: Problems ripping Asian DVDs

How can you tell if it is a bootleg? And why can't I copy it if it is?

Re: Problems ripping Asian DVDs

you might be able to copy it if it's bootleg, but as per the forum rules that you agreed to upon signing up, no questions about or help with illegal activities is permitted.

besides, if it's bootleg chances are the discs are such poor quality they are un-rippable anyway. i can't remember the last bootleg operation i saw that had a quality control center...

post your anydvd info window on one or more of the titles and we might be able to determine if this is the case.

Re: Problems ripping Asian DVDs

i'm going with there's a 99% chance that this title is bootleg.

no CSS protection? no region coding?

flip the disc over. is the bottom of the disc purple or silver?

Reasons, it doesn't matter cause nowadays professional copies could also be silver(just good pressed), it began with audio cds and now with dvds. But i guess it's purple too.

Re: Problems ripping Asian DVDs

that's true that pirates press CDs nowadays. i'm still saying this disc is a bootleg. amazon.com confirms that this disc was released in the US back in october. if it were a legitimate copy, it would at the very least have a region code

Re: Problems ripping Asian DVDs

silver denotes a pressed disc. amateur bootlegs are usually burned (purple).

chances are if they have a kiosk in the mall, this isn't a small bootlegging operation.

my best guess is that there are mastering errors on the disc, but since it's a bootleg (taboo topics aside) we really have no way of saying what might be wrong with the disc. who knows where it came from.

in the future, if you need help with backing up discs, we're glad to help out, but for our analyses to mean anything, the disc must come from a legitimate source. if the disc is not from a legitimate source than that introduces MANY variables than cannot be troubleshot.

sorry you ended up with bootlegs. i assume a mod will close this thread sometime in the near future.

don't let this deter you from coming back if you need any help in the future though!

That's true too with the region code, but since there's not a css and no region code maybe a prof copy like i mentioned before or maybe porn or just cheapo made stuff.

Re: Problems ripping Asian DVDs

haha i think porn is the only exception to the rule when it comes to region codes and CSS protection. even most cheaply made dvds will have at least a region code and CSS.

i even have original porn dvds obtained from the distributer (not even through a reseller) that are region free with ZERO copy protection.

don't ask how i'm able to purchase porn direct...haha

Don't you work in a dvd store? This would explain much, but hey guess what you're not the only person who works in a dvd store, me too!

That's ok, i can only say you can have very good relationships to distributors and resellers through these kind of jobs in this business.

Of course it should be some kind of discretion.
