| Output from CloneDVD2 and DVDfab Can anyone tell me, assuming that I disable the transcoders in DVDfab and CloneDVD2, will the resulting files be the same. I've done a couple of tests myself and sometimes the resulting folders are different sizes, however when I look at the files with Vobblanker, they appear to be the same? If anyone can shed some light on the subject I'd be most grateful. I've done some searches on the forum looking for information however because DVDfab and CloneDVD2 are discussed on here a lot, there were loads of results and I couldn't seem to find the information I needed. I've heard people talking about "compliant" rips, with regards to importing data into compression programs, but I can't seem to find data on how compliant rips are from CloneDVD2 or DVDfab. Many thanks!

| Re: Output from CloneDVD2 and DVDfab How much different sizes? They shouldn't differ that much. The 2 products handle the ripping methodology differently to make it "compliant", deciding what is kept and how it is fixed. How "clean" the rip is depends on how well the product does. But you won't know how "clean" it is unless you look at the files internally. This is only for the techno-geek. So don't worry about the different sizes as long as the result is the same. From the many tests, RipIt4Me does a better "clean" rip than DVDFab and CloneDVD2, especially on new Sony titles. |

| Re: Output from CloneDVD2 and DVDfab I would personally, thanks to DrinkLyeAndDie's advice, run FixVTS on the CloneDVD2 output just to be safe. At that point you should have files that can even be opened with DVD Shrink which is a pretty good test as far as compliance and "cleanness" is concerned. DVD Shrink is pretty fussy about what it will open. I don't know enough about DVDFab to know why there is a difference but it's almost guaranteed to be because of the different ways they deal with the protection on the disc. I also agree that just because there's no further development on R4M that doesn't immediately make it useless...it's a great product and works on almost all discs out there. There's a few in Germany right now that it apparently won't handle, but, that's about it. |

| Re: Output from CloneDVD2 and DVDfab Yeah I tend to run everything past FixVTS anyhow, as I tend to butcher the rips using VobBlanker and I'm never too sure how much that's honking the files. Thanks for the advice, it's much appreciated. If anyone else has input please feel free to add it, the more I learn the better!

| Re: Output from CloneDVD2 and DVDfab Well, if you're going to run them through VobBlanker anyway, you can feel pretty confident that any problems are being fixed and that FixVTS is not necessary. jsoto put code into VobBlanker to recover from any structural problems that are encountered and fix them and it seems to work very well. So, I wouldn't call using VobBlanker butchering anything...it does a wonderful job. |

| Re: Output from CloneDVD2 and DVDfab I need to be very careful in how I answer that question. I was recently in a heated discussion about using the term "ripping" and VobBlanker together and the author, jsoto, was adament that VobBlanker was not a ripper. So with that out of the way, let's put it this way...as long as AnyDVD is running, if you select the video_ts.ifo file on the DVD as input and select a folder on the hard drive as output, you can get the files from point A to point B and they will be compliant enough that even DVD Shrink will open them. |
