Nero compatibility

I found Nero to be very unreliable software to burn DVDs. Authors claim with every new version to fix DVD burning problems but it's not happening. Results are there is always some standalone player that will refuse to play DVDs burnt with Nero.
Nero is great for CDR recording and I use it all the time but for DVD burning Prassi PrimoDVD has worked for me the best.

Hello,

i (beta)tested the new 5.5.10.7 version for over a week and found - to my surprise - no problem with VideoDVD at all. Unlike the previous versions this update seems to fix all known compatibility problems. I testet my DVDs with about 12 DVD-Players and all of them - with different chipsets and drives - are playing the NERO VideoDVDs. Compared to the last desasterous release version 5.5.10.0 this new update is working very well.

I went to the Nero site for the update but the server is overwhelmed at this time. Here is another site where you can download the update...

Artimis you said you had successful results. Could you explain, what recording settings you used? Like iso, udf, or dvd book, things like that. Thanks in advance.

Nero and compatibility

I agree with Artemis ! I have ripped and burned 4 movies with Nero 5.5.10.7 version and taken them to various stores that I know the managers and asked to try on different machines. The list is way beyond 12 in the last 2 days of testing. Even tried some of the little DVD portable players. ALL note the word... ALL are playing with the burned video -R by the way.

Circuit City folks and other are telling me that the most compatible format they have come across is the -R DVD

I use DVD Decrypter file mode (rip extra files like VIDEO_TS.IFO)

DVD2one main movie, English lang. no subtitles, (not learning French or Spanish *S*) default angle

source is where DVD Decrypter put it. Destinatinon is a "pre created" folder "MOVIENAME_BURN"\VIDEO_TS * note I also created an empty AUDIO_TS folder under MOVIENAME_BURN.

after running DVD2one I close and open IFOEdit 95
open VIDEO_TS.IFO file in the new VIDEO_TS folder of moviename_burn then click "Get VTS Sectors" and it really does nothing but I do it anyway just to see if there are any pointers that are missaligned. Then highlighting the newcreated VIDEO_TS.IFO I click "region free" and process that. SAVE the file as the same as it was before and i'm done.

Open Nero.
Choose UDF mode.. not UDF/IFO NOT DVD Video.. but UDF. All the mass made movie files I've looked at are UDF mode anyway. could be a clue here for compatibility. *S*

Give the UDF file a name.. MOVIE_UDF (I just put the UDF there incase I burn one the other way in a test, I can tell from the title which is which, and it absolutley NOT needed, just for me and my naming system Call it "whatever" and it will work fine.
Click "NEW"
click and copy AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS from the location you created of MOVIE_BURN folder, and click the burn buton. That's it. Took me 87minutes from rip to out of the computer burned DVD ready for set top playing to do a movie.

Quality is outstanding. NEAR the original. Only the original or CCE encoding will be better, but not by a lot and sometimes really not worth the effort. I've copied larger movies to DVD5 using DVD Decrypter, IFOEdit, REMPEG2, VOBrator, and gotten them to fit, but the time envolved is HOURS and sometimes days as I find the time to get it done. In one evening I can have 3 movies ripped, transcoded, burned, and watchable/useable. Quality is superior to VHS but not up to original DVD so... I will settle for speed and ease over absolute quality. I watched Minority Report that ended up on my computer at 8,458,813,440 that would have taken a LOT of cutting, and re-encoding to get to fit onto 1 DVD, and to tell you the truth on my 27 inch TV, at normal watching distance I absolutely (NOTE absolutely) cannot tell the DVD2ONE version at 4,688,216,064 from the larger original.

Hope the info was useful.

Thanks vljenewein very informative, but still have one more question. When you say you use the udf mode, do you mean you use the default settings or do you make any changes, such as 1.02 or 1.50 modes, dvd book, or the xbox settings? Just wondering what setting makes it most compatible with set top dvd players Thanks in advance. And all your previous help is much appreciated

I just bought DRU500A but nero 5.5.10.0 didn't recognise the drive correctly

Got dvd burn speed option locked to 8x (should be 2x, 4x?)
and write method dao, tao, sao, (should be rw,sw?)

Maybe it's because of the media?
I use "Smart" brand, dunno if this media works for u guys?

thanks for info

NERO 5.5.10.7b (very latest version) does recognise the SONY DRU500A.

Not had any problems yet.

Rip using DVDDecrypter, let DVD2ONE do its thing, and burn with Nero using the wizard set to DVD-Video. Currently using Bulkpaq 2x DVD-R's.

I tried the disc in a friends Panasonic DVD player and viewed on a 32" TV. He said he couldn't tell the difference unless about 6" from the screen (who watches a movie that close?). After explaining how the program DVD2ONE works, he was expecting VCD quality - he was totally gobsmacked.

As I'm only using the program to back up my purchased DVD collection, I doubt I will have the compatibility problems that some seem to suffer when using NERO to burn the disc.

Tried version 55107b with my Sony-DRU500a. Works great. Sometimes, when when I burn movies on cheap media, like the Princo DVDs, when I use the maximum allowed capacity,4.37G, I get some errors at 99% (lead In and Lead Out) but the DVD does play fine on all my DVD players, including a 3 year old Toshiba. Now, if it plays on that one it will play on anything else. If I re-encode with a higher compression, let's say the total size is 4.2G, then I can create de DVDs with no problem. Of course, if I use good quality media, like Verbatim or Memorex, I get no errors at all...even with the max size.

How do you know it got error?
I think nero can't report any error?

Do you know where to buy online cheap media such as princo in south east asia?

thanks

The DVD-video option of Nero 5.5.10.7b works great, the only problem I have in this version is that it burns 4X media at 2speed. Anybody knows an answer to that?
When burning an ISO whit DVDdecrypter it uses the correct 4speed.

Media: Datawrite 4X
Firmware Sony dru-500a: 1.0g

Sorry Dogdevine, don't know the new booktype of this version.

I just installed new aspidrivers and the speeds in nero were correct again so I think my aspi-drivers were corrupted.
This neroversion is the first one of wich the movie burnt with it plays in my standalone NAD t531. So just give it a try.

ok... use the WIZARD!!!

after playing w/over 100 movies that works great on my sony dvpns715P under "UDF" format... I tried something..... I used the wizard.... dvd...new dvd....other format...dvd video.. and you know what.. I just dragged and dropped my files from my "VIDEO_TS" directory into the "wizard created VIDEO_TS" directory... yes there was also an AUDIO_TS (keep empty) directory.. but those press FLAWLESSLY on my two burners.. pioneer 104 and sony dru500A using 2X cheapie media... also plays on my PS2 X-BOX... thanx NERO!!! one thing!! if you don't go and add more "CACHE" you will underburn on that 104 drive....

I don't force the UDF in Xbox and generally use just the default setting here which is 1.02 I have used the 2.01 mode in UDF/ISO mode using ISO level 1, ISO 9660 NO Joliet, NO foced DVD-Video...., Physical partion UDF 2.01 and used current date and time. I put the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders in the compilaton and burned. Both this and the straight UDF mode seemed to work in my Apex set top without any probems, and before the new update, UDF/ISO would not burn right for me. Just for what it's worth.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS use quality media and don't skimp or go cheap.. you will pay for it later with freezes, dropouts, pixilation, skips, etc and not on all the movies you burn. Some of the DVD media will work ok.. just like a bomb.. you never know which one is the bad one until it's too late.

Don't "check" this option, i've never used this option,
and all my discs work, (cheap HP/Ricoh media 2.95 Euro)
UDF 1.02 works fine for me, and no multisesion,
further, leave options at default....
