My dvd's are glitchy and skip.

Well, this has been a very odd, recurring problem. I have a Sony DRU 530-A , and I am using the ultra edition 6.6 of nero, and dvdshrink. Now, let me say that I have been using shrink since last spring, and I have made perfect, glitch free and still nonskipping dvds. I was using expensive dvd-r's though. Now, I have been trying to make copies, and almost every one of them has some kind of glitch problem or skip that goes on throughout the dvd. I am using all the same stuff, except for the dvd-r's which I bought (cheaply) 25 for 20bucks. A problem Im having with shrink is that itll burn the movie all the way to the end, and then start not responding when its trying to write the tracks or whatever at the very end. Thats when I take the dvd out, and go to watch it, because of this problem theres always been some things wrong with the dvd, such as the menu not working properly, a skipped scene, glitches...and other different things. But a few days ago, this happened with troy, I took it over to my friends house, watched it, and suprisingly troy played perfectly. But, the day after it, when I tried to watch it with my other friend it skipped BADLY, and every 6minutes a small skip would take place for about 1 second. I came home, cleaned the dvd, and all the little skips were gone, but a big scene skip was still there.
I dont know what to do, I think first of all it comes from the root that my dvd shrink is stalling out at the very end of the burn process, but then that wouldnt explain why my troy worked perfectly at FIRST, and then started skipping. I think it may be my cheap dvd's im using, is that possible? My final theory is the dvd case Im holding my dvd's in is scratching it?
Please, any advice and info would be HUGELY appreciated.

Absolutely. Probably about 95% of all skipping/freezing problems on burnt dvds are caused by bad or incompatible (with your writer) media.

Cheap dvds generally produce inconsistent (or downright bad) results (especially with Lite-on drives).

What writer do you have and what type of dvds are you trying to burn?

[Btw, welcome to the forum. ]

UDMA is not turned on your writer for one thing not sure about what else could be wrong. Probably the media also as we don't know what the MID is.

Well, what is UDMA and should it be turned on?
Also, can you tell me what the MID is and how I can tell you guys what it is?

Possible solutions are as quoted above, Turn DMA on, and throw those discs away. If failing those 2 solutions, the same error code comes up, it means you have a bung drive.(unlikely)

Re: My dvd's are glitchy and skip.

UDMA = ultra direct memory access. Go to device manager. under IDE look for primary and secondary. right click both of them 1 at a time and click properties. You can set it there to 2 or higher if it will let you. Also check in the drivers tab and see if you have MS drivers. There's alot of info for doing this here at this site. For a program for checking MID's > http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

I've never gone wrong with TDK - (MID TTGO1/2) and TDK + (MID RICOJPN) Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim come highly recommended from this forum. Check out the link in my sig for 1st class MID codes.

Re: My dvd's are glitchy and skip.

Take them back to BB if you haven't used alot of them. See if they will trade some Fujifilm 8x that say Made in Japan on the label. Don't get the Made in Taiwan ones! Or if they have TDK Made in Japan. Read in the media and bargin basement forums. A lot of good info there on media also.

Second your burners firmware doesn't reconise that new media, update your firmware and try again. I wish I could help you with which firmware and how to flash it. Check the lite-on forum for that info.

Whilst that being true, the DRU530A was Sonys first non Sony DVD Writer, the DRU510A being the last Sony OEM and Chipset. The DRU530A is actually a Accesstek OEM and Sanyo Chipset. It wasnt til the DRU700A that Sony entrusted the capable hands of lite-on/mediatek. Anyways, what I'm saying is this drive is a bit fussy on media (-) and needs current or hacked firmware.

Re: My dvd's are glitchy and skip.

ok, heres another very odd thing I was hoping you all could help me figure out. these stinky memorex dvd's ive been using...all have a pattern, they all skip on my xbox, and most dvd players...but on my 1 friends dvd player they ALL play perfectly...wtf? Is it maybe the newer the player the better the codecs? I have no idea why that would happen, but its quite frustrating

Re: My dvd's are glitchy and skip.

The latest is 2.1g and you can get it off Sony's iste. It has instructions and they are relatively simple. I had to upgrade because my 530a would not burn a (-) at all. I have some off brand right now and have tried 12 times to burn a movie and it will not burn it without errors. It completes fine, but the dvd will skip and freeze. It pays to get good DVD the 1st time.

Re: My dvd's are glitchy and skip.

Your friend's DVD player may be a computer based DVD-ROM drive. Most other players are entirely different in design and work to play DVDs for entertainment rather than extract data for a computer.
