help : artifacts on ripped dvd

hi, i'm having a problem here with Happiness dvd.
i ripped it out successfully using dvd decrypter but i got bad result as shown below. but whenever i'm fast forwarding or backwarding on powerdvd the artifacts are gone, so i'm guessing this might be somekinda copy protection because i had similar problem with my The Straight Story dvd.1

or anyone has other suggestions?
thanks in advance

and oh yes, fyi the source dvd is PAL (25fps, interlaced) and has no scratches.

Can you play your ripped files in PowerDVD without artifacts? I'm guessing yes. In which case, you are the subject of a bad burn. Without more details we can't really help. Burner, burn speed, and media all will be helpful. My guess is you used low quality media and/or burned it at the wrong speed.

hi thanks for replying me. but nope, the ripped files also viewing that same artifacts when played normally. i also tried to re-encode it using tmpgenc & mainconcept mpeg encoder but somehow the artifacts still there.

i burned it on my pioneer dvr-109 w/ 4X speed using TDK DVD-R.

Re: help : artifacts on ripped dvd

Ok, that narrows it down. It means your rip was bad. Rerip it at a slower speed...say 4x or lower. Before burning, check the hard drive image again with powerdvd to see if there are any artifacts. If there are, it's possible you have a bad disc(scratches aren't the only indication that a disc is bad...sometimes there are manufacturing errors that show up only when you play it back) or that your particular drive doesn't want to read it. If possible, you could try ripping it in another drive and see if that helps. Let me know if you're still having problems after trying these things.

Re: help : artifacts on ripped dvd

And you can play the original on the drive you ripped it with and get no artifacts?

Edit:

I'm signing off for the night, but, assuming you can play the original IN THE DRIVE you ripped it with and had no problems, my only other suggestion that I can think of off the top of my head is to rip it with something else. Maybe try DVD Fab Decrypter and see if that works for you. If it does NOT play in the drive you used to rip it with, then obviously your problem is there. I'll check this thread in the morning before work.

You could try AnyDVD ripper. Maybe this works better.
Or you could try to play the disc with AnyDVD enabled. If you don't get artifacts, AnyDVD's decryption works 100% and you can process directly from the original disc.
