I have not got my hands on this movie yet.

Have you tried VobBlanker on the files produced by R4Me to see if it will work as well?

Re: Golden Compass and Ripit4me

If FixVTS works, VobBlanker certainly will as it is more sophisticated.

@MBK - we had some spirited discussions at DVF, but, contrary to being ostracised, your point of view was always respected and you were always encouraged to put it forward (no matter how little sense it made). Your memory must be addled over the last year laddie.

HaHaHaHaHa Les... too funny... Not everyone 'must' have free Les, and surely not something that can be done just as easy or easier with DVDFab, and surely not if it takes twice as long.... Some people have different wants out of their software... that was my point all along.
Just as I used to suggest RipIt4Me in other forums to those that 'must' have free over luxury... I still do suggest freewares to many, many that desire free, every chance I can. And I still suggest AnyDVD to those that hate the longer processes and just want simple and fast..Period!...

I think our differences stemmed from your closed-mindness regarding RI4M.

On a positive note though... I once again Thank You for recommending VOBBlanker to me.... One of my Favorite 'FREEWARES'...

To recap, this is what I encountered:
1. At first I was getting a "couldn't create target rip directory" error message.
- This is easily solved by removing the brackets, "<" and ">" from around the title.

2. Then, I seemed to get stuck at the create PSL2 file stage.
- This is easily solved by being patient. It takes about 2 min for the psl file to be completed

3. Then, during the "cleaning" stage, I got a message that my DVD was dirty and to clean and rerip.
- Choose NOT to rerip and just continue on

4. Run Ripit4me file output on HDD thru Fixvts.

5. Then use DVDShink and your favorite burner

I realize that it is probably easier to use DVDFAb (Thats what I used earlier to rip this movie.) However, its nice to know that Ripit4me still works against what I assume is some new protection.

Thanks again Wombler.
My pleasure and glad to hear it works!

I've seen this on previous occasions but I'm not sure why it works.

The FixVTS functionality was indeed amalgamated into RipIt4Me but obviously something is different.

Possibly only the core functionality required was integrated or perhaps even just the recursive nature of running it through twice makes the difference.

I'm sure Blutach's expertise can explain why though.

Well I wouldn't quite regard it as Earth shattering stuff but thanks.

It's a bit frustrating that I haven't received this disc yet and am having to suggest solutions rather than reporting them myself but at least it works and that's the main thing.

Thanks for that Alan your kind remarks are very much appreciated.

I do try to be as useful to others as possible but it's very gratifying when you realise that someone else has noticed your efforts.

Apparently you didn't read my last post (or somehow - only God know's how - misunderstood it).

I refuse to go further (despite your constant baiting). In any event, this thread isn't about AnyDVD and its fan club.

Apologies my friend. I didn't mean to put you in a corner.

It was meant more in the context of what's different about FixVTS but I can see where the difficulties lie.

I'll put my brain in gear next time.

Re: Golden Compass and Ripit4me

No need to apologise Wombler - especially not you

AFAIK, however, and speaking very generally, VobBlanker adjusts more pointers than FixVTS. Ifoedit is perhaps the best of all in this regard (but it has some bugs - especially wrt cell commands). But best of anything is to demux and remux with muxman. Then all pointers and timestamps and such are recreated from the elementary streams. You just can't beat that.

Obviously you chose to try and stick in that last insult before you chose not to go further .... exactly your behavior at DVF, start the insults with your trolling comment and then try to hurl that last insult...

Just let it go and move on... I told you it's fine with me not to have to deal with you.... 'so just move on' dud and just keep the topic on RI4M.

Just Move On!! for God's sake...

I think what MBK was getting at (early on in this thread) is that jamoskeag3 was in the ( (any___) fill in the blanks) threads about 1 1/2 yrs. ago causing probs. He was just doing what he did (jamoskeag3) and that's all. (getting even?!)
End of OT:

Re: Golden Compass and Ripit4me

Anyone got any Ripit4me insights?
We seem to be turning my thread into another Clint flick: "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly". (Blu, AT LEAST, will understand this).
You all can figure where you fit in.

Re: Golden Compass and Ripit4me

Well Jamos, I don't know what The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly has to do with any of this or where you or anyone else falls under, but I had only good intentions when I first posted in this thread. I thought you were getting A Bit ornery towards Bob for mentioning AnyDVD, so just wanted to remind you how you yourself was treated in the AnyDVD threads when you mentioned RI4M in them... and how I always came to your defense despite being an AnyDVD owner myself... I backed up your right to mention RI4M as freedom of speech.
That's when you stated that you were not in fact upset and only was conveying that you wanted specific RI4M info, so I acknowledged that and wished you the best and told you that I was sorry that I couldn't help you with RI4M any longer because I no longer had it on any of my PCs.

I don't see how I ended up as causing any problems here?? On the contrary... that's when it snowballed into something ugly because of one individual.

Anyways, per Alan's request to try and get back on topic...

I think I read that you already got this DVD done with DVDFab without hitch... so my question is why do you still feel the need to try and get RI4M to do this title?? Just because, or is it more for future references?

RI4M still can get most DVDs done right?... so why not chalk this one up to DVDFab and let RI4M fight another battle down the line? However, based on your fondness for RI4M, I'd totally understand if you just feel that urge to continue to find the RI4M solution for this DVD... I just truly wish that I could've offered some insight about RI4M and this DVD, but all I can offer would be how I did it with other programs...which you don't really want to hear... and I'll respect that.

For the record.. I never once said anything bad about RI4M in this thread...
It's your prerogative if you'd like to keep trying it out on this DVD.

Re: Golden Compass and Ripit4me

I've experienced the RI4M > FixVTS fix on a few titles myself in the past also, mostly trying to get the output compatible with DVDShrink. It seems to work well.

And, I'm doing this all under wine on Linux...

Thanks for the tip Wombler, I probably never would of thought of trying that. I wonder if one of the older versions of RipIt4Me that used FixVts would crack the protection or is it the combination of the two that does it? Maybe I'll have to try that next time I have issues backing up something difficult.
