Getting DVD9 to DVD5

People still recommend using IMGburn for even DVD5's. My question is what is the best way to shrink the DVD9 to DVD5? DVDShrink could do this but wouldnt that be similar to burning with Shrink? Because you are still using Shrink to compress.

I also like DVDFab's Customize to remove unwanted material. Could I use this to get to dvd5 and then IMGBurn?

Re: Getting DVD9 to DVD5

Sure you can... I have used a combination of RipIt4Me, CloneDVD/AnyDVD, DVDFab Platinum, and DVD Shrink to do what I needed and then ImgBurn to burn.

Re: Getting DVD9 to DVD5

The "best" way is debatable. There are lots of ways to shrink a DVD9 to DVD5. The approach I use depends on the material I'm backing up. I gave you one method I use in another thread...basically I use CloneDVD2 to deselect the titlesets I don't want, rip it to the hard drive, and use Recode to compress it. Other titles I back up to DVD+R DL discs using ImgBurn+AnyDVD. (Read image, write image) And finally if I don't have any DL discs kicking around and it's a movie that requires a lot of compression, I use DVD-RB Pro to re-encode the video so that it'll fit on a DVD5. In ALL cases I burn the result with ImgBurn. I've never had a problem with any of these methods. Note that DVD Shrink can replace Recode quite easily in my method above. Shrink has far better compression than CloneDVD2 but CloneDVD2 can keep the menus while removing titlesets which I think is a useful feature. IMO, Recode works just as well as Shrink and gives about the same results.

Re: Getting DVD9 to DVD5

I use VobBlanker and/or DvdReMake to remove unwanted material and edit the menus to remove buttons before reencoding with DVD Rebuilder. Then I use ImgBurn to burn the resulting output.

Re: Getting DVD9 to DVD5

Have you tried ImgBurn with AnyDVD? You can use ImgBurn in read mode to create an ISO that can then be mounted easily.

Re: Getting DVD9 to DVD5

I have, but I'm an old school kind of guy, so I'm just used to using DVD Decrypter. I do use ImgBurn for creating ISOs of non-movie discs though.

No biggie. Just wanted to make sure you were aware the option was there.

Re: Getting DVD9 to DVD5

So does DVD Decrypter make DVD5 copies or do you have to make an ISO of a predestined DVD5 folder?

I know DVD Decrypter isnt used much anymore because it cant crack the new codes, but if you have a program like AnyDVD wouldnt that make the program essentially the same it was? Because the DVD will appear unprotected.

Re: Getting DVD9 to DVD5

DVD Decrypter doesn't compress anything, only copies it. You can use DVD Decrypter with AnyDVD running in the background to create an ISO of the disc, but, if it's a DVD9, you get a full size DVD9 ISO. I hope that makes sense.

Re: Getting DVD9 to DVD5

And a lot of us here will recommend burning with ImgBurn. It's an excellent app.
