Recently my wife picked up a copy of Underclassman (Region 1), brought it home, and doing the normal thing of copying the movie to cheap media and reserving the original as the "master" copy.

Well it's been 48 hours since I've been trying to back it up -- and still no luck. I've used AnyDVD 5.8.2.1 in the background and DVD Shrink 3.2 only to have it progress teh encoding to 18% before saying that it was out of paging memory, even though the virtual memory is manually set to 1024MB.

The errors continue to where it finally says there are too many and stops logging them.

I am going to attempt to shrink the movie on my primary workstation (P4 1.6Ghz w/ 512MB ram) verses my slave (P3 933Mhz w/ 256MB ram) and hope that it will have enough juice to get through the encoding process, however even that is questionable as EVERY attempt to create even an actual image has failed so far.

If that doesn't work I am going to switch back to the slave and try and rip it with it's NEC 3550 drive, and maybe even install the eval version of CloneDVD and attempt to copy the disc to a virtual drive and work with it from there. Of course I am purely guessing and experimenting -- so well see.

In the meantime I'd like to know if anyone has successfully copied this Region 1 Underclassman movie? As I am beginning to wonder if it will be one that will have to wait until it's copy protection is cracked before it will be added to my "disposable" DVD media, since I hate spending $15 to $25 dollars for somethign that will be destroyed by abuse that my children (and wife) like to put them through.

I had the same problem with Shrink 3.1, even with anydvd 5.8.3.1 running. At 38% it would say out of memory. I successfully copied with the trial v. of Clone DVD 2.8.5.1. Just for shits & giggles i ran the backup through shrink 3.1 and it copied to hdd fine w/ no problems.

Rip the disc first.

Open the drive, drag the VIDEO_TS folder to your hard drive, and let go.

Wait a few minutes for it to finish and then run Shrink on that folder. VIOLA!
