Re: DVDdecrypter gone now what?

Specifically, DVDFab Decrypter from DVDIdle. It's free and somewhat similar to DVDdecryptor, but updated very regularly for new protection schemes.

Re: DVDdecrypter gone now what?

I still use DVD Decrypter. I load the ANYDVD driver for those disks that DVD Decrypter can't handle, rip it with DVD Decrypter and then unload the ANYDVD driver. Works fine.

Re: DVDdecrypter gone now what?

DVD decrypter still works very well using RipIt4Me.

This tool is updated very fast and it's free

Re: DVDdecrypter gone now what?

I should try that RipIt4Me thing. I guess I'm too lazy sometimes, especially when I find something that works. Then I feel less incentive to look elsewhere for additional solutions.

Re: DVDdecrypter gone now what?

I suggest to do a test

It's a very interesting tool. It require that you shut-down anyDVD before to use it, but this should not be a problem.

The better part is the FixVTS step, that remove any crap from files, making them smaller, and then require less compression when you use something like dvd shrink or clonedvd.

Re: DVDdecrypter gone now what?

Could you list some DVD titles that you have ripped which have the new protections that DVD Decrypter can't handle natively? That way I could compare results somewhat more directly. Maybe 5 titles or so?

Thanks

Re: DVDdecrypter gone now what?

Some problematic titles correctly managed by RipIt4Me are Memories of a Geisha, The Grimm brothers, and Truman Capote.

Sorry, right now I can't remember other titles

You're welcome

I read also about Ultraviolet, but this title is still not available here in Italy, so I can't do a test by myself

Re: DVDdecrypter gone now what?

RipIt4Me is geat but requires a few programs to run and they must be loaded properly and updated. FabDvd decrypter and DvdShrink work great in combo with each other. If your kind've lazy (like me) you may find that route the best to go. You only need to update t o update DvdFab. If your looking for minimal compression just do the main title only in DvdShrink re-author mode and usually compression drops either to 100% or not much less.

Re: DVDdecrypter gone now what?

Okay - got me the Memories of the Geisha at the discount movie store. Previously viewed = Cheap.

I'll test and get back to the thread.

Funny, I've backed up all three titles with DVD Decrypter and AnyDVD running in the background with no problems whatsoever -- perfect burns, perfect playback.

Yeah, but he's trying to point out a possible free alternative, which is always a good thing, no?

Re: DVDdecrypter gone now what?

Okay. I downloaded the following files:

RipIt4Me Version 1.4.13.0 http://www.ripit4me.org/download.html
FixVTS Version 1.5 http://www.videohelp.com/~FixVTS/

and of course had the last version of DVD Decrypter (3.5.4.0) already installed.

All I did was place the small, self-contained RipIt4Me (409,600 bytes) and FixVTS (114,688 bytes) executables in the DVD Decrypter folder and from there, placed the DVD into the drive and closed the drive door (while holding down the shift key) and after the drive light was all done blinking, took my hand off the shift key and started the RipIt4Me app.

I followed the wizard, processed it with FixVTS when prompted and the disk was backed up successfully - no problem at all. Plays in my WinDVD app right off the hard drive without incident.

DVD Decrypter by itself was unable to rip the disk when I tried it.

So, I have an alternative, yet totally FREE, method of backing up more of my disks.

Thanks much for the help and the info. Life just got a little bit better...

BK

Re: DVDdecrypter gone now what?

This may help some people. I suggested a RipIt4Me installer for dummies and someone came up with one.

RipIt4Me Full Installer

Programs included during install: RipIt4Me, FixVTS, DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink

If you have DVD Shrink and DVD Decryptor already installed.

RipIt4Me and FixVTS Installer. Do after the first installer above.

Also FixVTS 1.5 installer

What I dig about it most is that it is NOT memory resident.

You only run it when you need it, and it's not loaded into memory until you do.

Plus, it is free.

Thanks again, Geno
