| DVD Freezes when watching Sometimes certain copies of my burnt dvd's freeze when viewing them on my Toshiba dvd player or even sometimes on my computer. Not all of them do it but enough to annoy the hell out of me I use dvd shrink. Any suggestions? ![]() |

| Re: DVD Freezes when watching I would also suspect poor media. Try Verbatim, TY, Fuji(mij) or Ritek Ridata. All have worked well for me. Also I make sure; Nothing is running in the background All my program auto-updates are shut off (including XP) Make sure to not burn a DVD faster than 4x for better burns. To keep system defragmented on a regular schedule Specs: Dell 8200 : Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Pentium 4 at 2.2 Ghz 512mb RDRAM 120GB Hard Drive w/data burst cache Nvidia -GeForce3-Ti500 Turtle Beach Santa Cruz Altec Lansing ADA995’s Lite-On DVD-ROM 16x (black model 166) Nec DVD+RW ND-2100 AD (burner) Sony DVP-NS715P (stand alone player) Sony DVP-NS525 (stand alone player) CyberLink Power DVD (soft PC player) 22” Trinitron Monitor media (currently) Ritek Ridata +R/+RW Verbatim +R Fuji +R (mij =TY) |

| Re: DVD Freezes when watching After reading product reviews from different sources, many of them report Toshiba standalones freezing during playback even with commercially pressed discs. Try your burnt discs in a friend's DVD player and see if they work ok.

| Re: DVD Freezes when watching I frequently had this issue - even with extremely good media. I use DVDClone. I found two major things really helped to eliminate this. 1) I now ONLY burn at 2.4x - regardless of the media and device capability. 2) I set the DVD size to custom and 4600 instead of 4700. It causes slightly more compression, but eliminates a lot of the freezing, which for me seemed to occur during the late stages of the movie. My research indicated that uneven dye penetration at the exterior edge of the media can contribute to this. That's why setting to 4600 helps - it leaves the very outer edge untouched. |

| Re: DVD Freezes when watching If you're having to burn at that speed you need to switch to better quality media. As I said, this is an issue with Toshiba players. If commercially pressed discs are known to give problems, copies have very little chance of playing successfully.

| Re: DVD Freezes when watching Just like to say thanks to this forum's contributors - removed trailers from a number of dvd's and burnt remaining movie onto new disc but, I made the mistake of buying cheapest blank dvd-r I could find - in my local computor shop!! Without exception all refused to play correctly to the end. Found this forum and took advice and bought some Sony discs - relatively expensive but they all work a treat - thanks to you all!!!! |
