The sole reason for buying my dvd-rw was mainly to backup anime over the years on a small number of disc rather than loads of cd's

The average Series is 26 eps long and 20-25mins per ep so thats about 11 hours
On disc tho its about 4-5gig of data per series, so I can pretty much fit them on 2dvd's.

2DVD's (straight coping) Vs 5-6(guessing)DVD's (recode to dvd format) + ALOT of time spent converting

Just wondering whether or not its better to stick with the benefits from getting most out of storage of divx or get the compatibility from re-encoding them to DVD.

Im guessing since the quality of the videos are in divx I wont be expecting any improvement in picture if I do encode them to dvd

Also with divx players on the market I can still watch divx on the big screen rather than the computer (or am i mistaken? like some dodgy res problems down the line..), but DVD players is still more easily avalible, so If I want to share the divx with family they would need a compatible player

Sure thing, keep them as AVI's. Most people want to watch their "movies" on their TV and the simplest way to do that is to encode them to DVD with a menu to allow selection. These then can basically be viewed on ANY dvd player. AVI playback is limited to PC's and a few DVD Players.

I normally encode 4 x 45min eps to a DVD, so since yours are 1/2 that size, you should be able to get 8 per DVD without any problems or significant quality loss. I'd put 9 on the last 2 so that the whole series of 26 eps would be on 3 DVD's. Move that out to 4 if you dont want to cram the last 2 and put 7 eps per disk. Gee, 1 or 2 extra DVD's is not going to break the bank

whether or not you want to do the conversion is really a matter of preference and the means with which you have to watch the movies. if they're already in divx and you have the means to view them, then don't convert them.

Thnx for the replies, think Ill do a straight copy with divx files and save the conversions for movies instead. Mainly because there are also series that go into
50-100 episodes, and I'l just end up with more disc to store away
