You'd need one of the DV authoring tools - high end. Vegas 4 is one that can render Dolby AC3.

But, do you have the necessary 5 tracks in the first place?

He's asking if you actaully have a 5.1 sound stream or if you're dreaming about upmixing stereo

that's not what they're asking. unless u have a 5.1 sound stream ready for use with ur videos, u can forget about somehow "converting" the stereo audio streams that come with the videos to 5.1.

ok, i'll try this again: unless u already have the AC3/5.1 sound stream that goes along with the video, u won't be able to recreate it.

MATA7:

On a more do-able note, you can take an ordinary stereo sound track, the sort that you'd get from a DV camcorder, and render that to AC3. But, it would still be stereo, not 5.1. The compression/encoding technology would be much the same and the resulting AC3 track quite a bit smaller than the original, uncompressed PCM track. Indeed, the only reason you would probably want to do this would be for the space saving where, for example, you had a lot of material to fit on the DVD.

However, to end up with 5.1 you need to record them in the first place - you know, with five microphones!
