To backup DVD to ISO with Menus minus "some" Extras i.e. Movie Teasers approx 250 MB minus French & Spanish voice.

Whats the single application I could use for this?

- DVDShrink does a good job preserving menus & removing French & Spanish voice channels.
-However I cannot remove some of the Movie Teasers amounting to 250+ MB inside the Extras Folders. I dont mind and would probably like to be able to choose what extras to REMOVE and what to KEEP before I do a compress and save to ISO

PS: I backup ISOs and use Alcohol to see movies. Sometimes I may burn to DVD+R and use on TV.

Okay. I was able to do that kind of SELECTIVE processing in Clone DVD. I am running it right as we speak.

Can I do the same in DVD Shrink or other programs? - The ones whose backups are better quality (transcoding / encoding) than CloneDVD.

With DVD Remake you can remove all unwanted stuff with no encoding (or transcoding) at all.

After removing unwanted stuff, you can still use dvd shrink or clonedvd2 on the resulting movie: in this way it will be necessary a lower compression, and then a better quality.

Does this extracting, copying procedure still hold true? Especially what would be the best software on the market RIGHT NOW?

Also now I am thinking of setting up a RAID NAS of sorts where I can drop all the MEDIA.

Now from what I hear recent DLNA compliant players can play a bunch of this media over the home network.

I was told that I could play the extracted VOBs using PS3 connected to the network.

Are there any players who are / can now play DVD ISOs?
Any other players that can play VOBs?

Alternatively replace the unwante clip with a black NTSC sized still image in DVD Shrink which will save a lot of space too.

Thanks Chetwood. What would be the best "hardware" forum for that? I looked and there are several here.

Software players? VLC can play ISOs without having to mount them. And most DVD palyer software can play VOBs either directly or to have them play like a DVD by opening one of the IFO files.

good old dvdshrink is still the best transcoder...with todays computers its pretty quick to do a complete re-encode (dvdrebuilder) to get the best result you can also use pgcedit (free) to remove unwanted stuff

Or VobBlanker (also free). Both PgcEdit and VobBlanker save more space than DVD Shrink.

Regards

I was looking more at Hardware players like PS3 that are DLNA compliant and can play media from a Central NAS. I hear PS3 can now do VOBs, and a lot of other media. What about ISOs? Any thoughts?

I've heard very good things about the Popcorn Hour and its ability to play and stream various media formats. It would probably suit your needs. It doesn't have a disc drive (such as DVD) built into it, but from what I understand you can hook up your own external drive if you need one.

Re: To backup DVD to ISO with Menus minus "some" Extras i.e. Movie Teasers approx 250 MB

I dont know how and when but I started using DVDFab Platinum to backup my DVDs into ISOs.

- Is it still the best / easiest application to do so?

- Lately, I have been doing SELECTIVE backups of the DVD ISOs where I remove the Other Movie Teasers, Copyright warnings, and lot of extra junk.
WHY?
I am storing the on a central NAS and connecting to it with a Network Media Streamer Player that can open and play DVD ISOs. Easy access to the collection FAST without having to load the physical DVDs. Ad-Free, fast access Media Access.

QUESTION:
- How do I make sure the "Main Menu" is the one that comes first?
- There are older "EXISTING" ISOs on the HDD that still have those Teasers & etc in there which irritatingly play automatically before the Man menu shows up. I want to REMOVE them to save space & have the Main Menu be the default.

Can I remove these teasers without spoiling the movie quality (without reencode / decode etc). I am assuming its just a matter of repointing menus since the VOBs / Chapters should remain intact except the "pointers".
