I'm new at this. I just got CCE SP and was playing around with it and DVDLab. I want to capture from my GeForce4 VIVO to HD my VHS events like graduations and etc.

I got VIVO to work and with Virtual Dub I am able to get AVI on my HD from tapes. Though AVI does fill space fast. Is it possible to convert stream while capturing with Virtual Dub to MPEG2 with CCE, on the fly?

Second, I didn't get one thing. When I turn AVI (I currently capture to AVI then convert with CCE) to MPEG2, in what format audio is compressed? MP3? AC3? I use CCE's utility to encode AVIs.

I heard that AC3 is superior to MP3, what can I do to turn output of CCE, the audio part, to AC3?

Also, about CCE, when I tried to use FlaskMPEG, I was unable to set settings for CCE there. It only gives me choice of compressing to color or B&W when I choose CCE as my video encoder and try to set settings of the codec (so it would be compatible with DVD).

Ulead VideoStudio 7 (amd 6) will capture directly from you VIVO card to a DVD mpeg file. Audio as a WAV and at 48kHz.

In VirtualDUB ( I get to many dropped frames with VD & not with VS7) leave your Audio at PCM (wav) and not as compressed MP3 as its then not compressed twice. (capt -> PCM -> AC3 is a lot better than capt -> MP3 -> AC3) Use BeSweet GUI w/ BeSweet to do the wav or mp2 to AC3 conversion.

You cannot author a DVD with MP3 audio, must me WAV (very large though), AC3 (the DVD standard) or MP2 (MPEG Audio).
