| Philips CDD4801/PCRW804 PIO or DMA? This drive lives in a cousins HP Pavillion 9715, but it says XP is using PIO mode not DMA, even the BIOS has DMA disabled when set to AUTO for this drive. Does this drive only support PIO mode or can it use DMA as I can't make XP use DMA on this drive. It's the OEM version CDD4801 which is a MASTER on the Secondary channel, there is a Pioneer DVD-115 set to SLAVE on the same channel too but this is using DMA. So, is it PIO only or can it use DMA? |

| Re: Philips CDD4801/PCRW804 PIO or DMA? It won't be Ultra DMA (which is what the BIOS would be reporting), but I've never seen a drive that didn't support the matching DMA mode for it's PIO - eg. PIO 4 = DMA MW2, PIO 3 = DMA MW1 The single word DMA modes that match PIO 2 or lower, tended to have very little adavantage, limited support, and often poor implementation. Presumably the controller port it's on is set to "DMA if available"? |
