Nu DDW-082 questions - why no NU forum?

Hi,
This looks like a good drive, and the company seems to doing better than the others at paying attention and responding to the needs and desires of customers (they have up-to-date Mac info on their site!)
My questions:
My primary concern is maximum read-compatibility: I send videos out to a lot of people and want to avoid returns due to older players. It looks like the bitsetting thing is built right in to this burner and is automatic - so smart! Does anyone know; if I buy one from Newegg will it have the latest firmware in it? I'm an all-Mac kind of guy (I'm an artist - give me some slack!) and would be buying an NEC if it didn't mean having to flash the firmware in a PC (I don't know my DOS from a hole in the ground).

It sounds like I'm going to want to stick with +R media since there's no true bit-setting with -R?

if I stick the drive in my G4 and install the drivers in my Library as instructed will I have all of the functionality that I'd have in a PC? Automatic bitsetting? Will I be able to burn in DVDStudio Pro? Toast?

And to finish: thanks to all of you CDFreaks. This is a great example of mutual aid in action; it's a beautiful thing.

I used to have that same drive. It stopped working aftre a few weeks. Its a POS. I actually emailed NU and they offered to change fix my drive or change it to a new one but I decided to get my money back from newegg and Im just going to buy a better burner probably an NEC. NU drives suck!

I have not had any problems with my NU-082. Maybe you just got a lemon, I've had mine for about 2 months and use it everyday, ripping and burning dvds.

I also had many issues with this drive, I was unable to back up any movie, everyone failed to play in my Sony DVD player. I burned the same movies with my Lite-on 811 and they all worked fine. My co-worked also had the same problems using this drive. I just got my refund from newegg and Bought the Lite-on 1213s.

my review on the nu 82 was mixed..it did ok with really good quality media but mostly was sub par on most. the dvd-r writing is abhorent. i definatly wouldnt catorgize them as being the best and the company really is very slow in coming out with firmware releases that work well with new media.

also we do not start forums for any drive manufactor only the major ones which we have plenty.
