Yes, the TS-H552A uses the Toshiba chipset. See this post.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

hi guys ,
i have such a problem with this tool.

my device is LiteOn 812s upto 832s with CG5G firmware (from codeguys site)
this firmware includes the media code that i want to change its write speed.
i have tried many ways, but i just can't make it real writing at 8x with TYG01.

here are the ways i have tried:
1. using dvdrw_omnipatcher-1.3.18 to change the speed options.
2. using dvdrw_omnipatcher-1.3.18 to change its Write strategies
to TYG02.
3. using MediaCodeSpeedEdit 1.0.3.9 to import the media code with DVD Identifier 3.6.2.

the ways all can set new firmware with 8x write speed in options,
because when i open the new f/m that i saved with changed speed,
the new f/m shows it support 8x in options.

but even if SmartBurn3110 or Nero speed tool , all show this media only support upto 4x with my drive.

i guess this problem may be caused by 2 reasons:
1. the CG5G firmware for 832s doesn't support 8x write speed for -R media. (but 832s should support this default)
2. my operation is incorrect.

anyone can help me KO this problem?
i have bought 200 pieces of this media......
anyway, thanks first

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

Welcome to cdfreaks

Sorry but I have to ask. Are you sure your drive is an 812S and not an 851S? 51S hardware cannot burn -R at 8x only 4x, so the crossflash patch blocks the ability of the firmware to write at 8x.

Btw, please be careful when it comes to posting the same questions in different threads. This is called crossposting and it's against forum rules.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

oh..
i don't know if this problem is associated to the f/m or the software
so i asked both sides.

anyway,it's my fault , i got to apology.
i'm so sorry!!

And,i can't verify if my device is 812s or 832s or 851s
it's a ES machine from my friend for free.
so it doesn't have anytable on the machine.
when i received it , it's recognized with 812s in device management

how can i do to identify this ?
read the EEPom ??

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

Yes, read the eeprom and open it in a hex editor if you have. You can also use a text editor, even notepad is good enough to display the drive name string.

@ala42

Could the liteon 1633 or 1653 firmwares have a similiar lossless function like the Benq?
Is this something you could implement?

Thanks,

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

The effort would be quite high as several table scanner have to be patched and liteon changes the table format quite often. Omnipatcher already supports this fuctionality.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

I saw you have a Liteon DRW-3S165 drive. The .hex files are used on BTC drives only, so there is no need to convert files. MCSE reads Liteon firmwares as .bin and unscrambled .exe files as they are available on the codeguys site. These can be flashed from windows.
Your location is Germany, so send me a Private Message in German if you like to explain what your problem really is.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

First you should check if your Philips drive also displays an empty media code name with DVD identifier. If it does, check which writing speed nero cdspeed's disk info function reports for this crap media. Probably it will report 4x writing speed.
MCSE can not display the empty media code your media has, which means lossless strategy swapping can not be used, but it can rename any media code entry to this empty media code name. To do so, select the -R media code that shall be replaced by this empty code, press the import button, follow the instructions and press the set button.
I do not know if the Benq/Philips firmware supports empty media code names at all, so you should replace a media code supporting more that the default 4x burn speed so that you can see a displayed write speed difference when using the patched firmware.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

Check the changelog file or the about box for a list of the supported drives and firmwares. You can load the BTC firmware in .hex or .bin format.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

I downloaded HP's dvd630c firmware update and extracted the .cvt file from it as I wanted to check if the media support looked any different from the standard BenQ firmware but it doesn't look like MediaCodeSpeedEdit can read the MIDs correct. Any chance you can add support for the HP firmware?

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

Support will be added in the next release. CH16 has less mediacodes than B7S9.
