Did you click the set button after importing the media code ? Did you see the OPTODISC-OR4-000 media code in the media list after the change ?

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for MediaTek-based DVD-Writers

This problem is solved in the mean time. The ARTEC firmware uses a joined table for +R and +RW as the early Liteon 401 firmwares did, so you can not see from the list if the media is +R or +RW. The choosen code to be replaced was OPTODISC OP4-001, a +RW media which of course can not be used as write strategy for +R burning .

Right, but Liteon 1xx3 firmwares also need a strategy swap. The simple change of the speed id byte works only with 8xx firmwares.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

Hi ala42,
is it also possible to change/patch the "reed speed"?
My Benq 1620 reads only a few DVD with full speed.
;-)

MediaCodeSpeedEdit V 1.0.3.7

MediaCodeSpeedEdit V 1.0.3.7 adds support for Benq/Philips .exe flasher for 1620 type firmwares, so there is no need to search for .cvt files anymore to change the write strategies to allow higher DVD write speeds. The changes are applied directly to the .exe flasher which can then be used to update the drive. There is no crossflash support added.
Code:
Changelog

1.0.3.7 19 Feb 2005
        - added direct .exe file patching for the supported Benq/Philips 1620
firmwares, .cvt files are still supported
        - cvt header with bad length info are accepted now
        - fixed crash when changing speed settings before selecting a media
          code, thanks Pac

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

Hello from newbie.

I am having trouble using the sped edit tool (which is a quality utility by the way)

After loading the Hex file from my emprex drw 1016ui external 16x usb dvdrw drive (AKA BTC) into the edit tool, i get as far as changing the media codes names and speeds, but every time i try and save i only get a 0 bytes img file.

Any clues why ??

I have downloaded previous and alternate versions but cannot get past this stmbling block.

Maybe it does not like saving from a hex file ?? I dont know.

Any help from any one would be greatly appreciated

thanx

That is a bug. The hex file loader bypasses the usual file loader which causes a problem. As a workaround load any other file, e.g. a .txt or .bin file before loading the .hex file.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

Hi

I am a newbie as far as file conversions and Dos goes so please bear with me.

So far I have used the HEX backup file created by windows when updating with official firmware in the Mediacodespeededit tool. At first the output file was 0 bytes. Now thanks to ala42 i now have a 1M img file(which i think is a bin file but they all appear as img files these days for some reason...anyway..).

How do I flash this now ??

I have looked at mtkflash before trying this route but it only seems viable for IDE drives which does not help me - in what is quickly becoming my quest - to flsh my btc external USB drive with media patched firmware.

slowly but surely I'm loosing the plot Liteon was much easier...

any clues anyone.... ???? or am I hopelessly lost ???

Check the BTC forum's sticky threads on how to flash .bin files to a BTC USB burner or ask the experts there.

When I remember right, the TSST TS-H552A has a completely different chipset and firmware than the B type drive, so the chances to support it are quite low until you show me any prove that they use the same base.
