Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for MediaTek-based DVD-Writers

Set the booktype to DVD-ROM and burn your PRODISK R03 at 4x.

Yup, this is what I've been doing lately. Just wanted to find out if I could slow it further down. Probably not.., better buy a new standalone DVD-player instead.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for MediaTek-based DVD-Writers

You could write them with the PRODISK R01 strategy, but I doubt that it would produce better write results. A better player is the way to go.

Thanks for your post. I know the software works with TSST DVD writers that use MTK chipsets but haven't used it on my TS-H552B. BTW, TS-H542A and TS-H552A use Toshiba chipsets.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for MediaTek-based DVD-Writers

Bug in Samsung support:
Samsung made a change to the +R speed id table in TS-H552B TS06, TS-H552U US01/03, which is not supported in the current MCSE version. About 1/3 of the +R entries are not handled correctly. I missed this change when checking US01 . Support for the newer TS06 and US03 has not been verified yet, check the changelog for supported versions.
This +R speed id problem does not influence the media code replacement feature for Samsung firmwares.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for MediaTek-based DVD-Writers

As long as you just changed the media name and did not change the write speed it does not matter.
Edit: You did edit -R media. The bug is +R only, so do not worry.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for MediaTek-based DVD-Writers

Boy, I just found this tool and it is terrific. Any chance of adding support for editing CD data? My new BTC 1016IM does not have info for a stack of 100 CD-Rs I just bought, and it will not burn them. I was hoping to add the data into their firmware.

Currently I have no plans for adding CD support. You can replace one of the available codes with the missing code using a hex editor by yourself. In the BTC 1016 A07F firmware the cd codes are stored at $44000. Here is an example:
Code:
044198 97 22 67 79 59 74 f7 a8 ."gyYt֬
The first three bytes are the cd media code, the next 3 bytes are the capacity. Nero cdspeed disk info window reports these values as Code: 97m:22s:67f, Capacity: 79:59:74. Try to overwrite one of the entries with the data of your unsupported CDs and hope the best. To be shure you do not replace a RW code, read out the code of one of the cds of your collection.
Flashing a patched firmware will void your warranty.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for MediaTek-based DVD-Writers

Hi guys I hope you can help me.

I have used your utility to modify the firmware (0159) in my BTC IDE1008 Writer to support the RitekG05 disks at 8x. The utility modified the firmware all ok, I upgraded the Firmware using the MTKFLASH program and now through Nero or DVD Decryptor I am able to select 8x writing speed.
But when I select 8x writing speed, the writer shows 8x in Nero but actaully only burns at 4x, and DVD Decryptor show burning speed only at 4x.

Here is the info on the disks from DVD Identifier:-

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for MediaTek-based DVD-Writers

Your burner does not support 8x writing on -R media, 4x is the limit.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for MediaTek-based DVD-Writers

I have just been to the manufacturers website and clearly it states that with standard firmware it supports the following _R media at 8X :-

DVD-R 8X TTG02 New Added
DVD-R 8X Prodisc S04 New Added
DVD-R 8X ProdiscF01 New Added

Any other ideas?

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for MediaTek-based DVD-Writers

It looks like you are right, I have loaded the original firmware into MediaCodeSpeedEdit Tool and the media I last listed is set to 4x only. The info they have listed on thier support website is incorrect.

http://www.pikaone.com/en/support/Me...tm#DVD_MOINS_R

Thanks for pointing this out to me.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for MediaTek-based DVD-Writers

I think that Pikaone's web site post the wrong speed of these 4 pcs DVD-R discs. The are really 8x DVD-R discs, but on this model, that only support to 4x write due to spec limite.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for MediaTek-based DVD-Writers

You can only swap to a media code/strategy which is already available in your current firmware. So if you have a media not supported by your current firmware, you can rename one of the available media codes to your not supported code.
The data from any foreign 16x media code will not help you. Either it is already supported, or you do not have such disks.

with regards to changing speeds, if 1 want 8x media to burn at 12x i just tick the box, and save is that right ?
have some yuden t02, that i want to try at 12x.
problem is after flashing the patched version i can still only select 8x.
i have samsung h552u, i thought i read that mcse works with this.
