Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

I have an LG4082B, firmware 208A.

I bought a new batch of 16x Verbatim discs [MCC 03RG20], but my max speed is 4x. I followed the instructions, read de media codes from the disc and changed the strategy for an equivalent media. Saved the firmware and updated my drive, yet the fastest speed availabe is still 4x.

What am I doing wrong?

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

Changed the strategy, exactly how?
This is an internal slimtype burner. Have you performed a speed burst test with Nero CD DVD Speed? What is the result?

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

The drive has a burst rate of 23 MB/s.

I changed the strategy by renaming it from another DVD-R media that suported 8x. I chose an OPTODISCR008 and renamed it to MCC 03RG0. Still stuck at 4x max.

Any ideas?

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

For mostly of LG DVD burners overspeeding of 4x -R media does not work. If you try to overspeed that media you'll get 2x max speed.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

Hopefully I can recieve some help.

I have a NEC 1300A & using Herrie's "1.0C Bitsetting Final Test 2" as FW.
I am using TDK DVD-R discs & have never had any major problems.
I have of course upgraded the FW when needed, but now I'm having trouble with the latest batch of TDK discs & of course, no new FW can be found.

The problem is that I recieve an "Incompatible Format" message, when I try to burn on the disc.

I've now run the disc through "DVD Identifier" & get the following:

Code:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:TTH02]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc & Book Type : [DVD-R] - [DVD-R]

I'm assuming that the problem has to do with TTH02, seeing as I can't see any mention in the firmware, when using MCSE.
Last batch was RitekG05, which worked without problems.

So if it now is possible to upgrade Herrie's firmware via the mentioned tools in this thread, I would appreciate it if you could guide me through MCSE.

I get this much anyway:

1. Load the firmware with MCSE

But then I get a bit lost.

If you need more info, don't hesitate to ask.

Even though my writer is old, it still works well & if this trick can help me out, well that's great.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

Ok I tried that, but it didn't help.

1. Copied the 'media code'-block
2. Loaded firmware with MCSE
3. Seeing as I don't use PRINCO, I mark PRINCO. (See pic1)
4. Click on import button, *paste the whole DVD Identifier code & click ok *See previous post*
5. I then click on the set button & confirm to overwrite Princo.
6. TTH02 is now in the list. (See pic2)
7. I click on save button & new firmware is saved as "10cf-t2_speedpatched.bin".

Flashed drive with fixed firmware, but no luck.

Am I doing something wrong?

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

Try substituting to a better code, TYG02 if you don't actually use TYG02, mind you, I thought the Herrie'd firmware had a pretty decent default strategy.

In the era of that drive, NEC started in the +R camp, and the 1300 is probably better with +R than -R, so -R that was never part of the original list is a double whammy.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

Thanx Matth, I'll try your tip.

As for the 1300 working better with +R than -R, could be true.
But since I bought the 1300, I've only used TDK -R discs & never had major probs.

Only once before, did I have the same prob as now, but a firmware upgrade fixed it. (Version of Herrie's FW that I am using now)

I found out a little unimportant bug. When I right click on MCSE on start menubar and choose "About speededit...", it gives me blank window.

Forgiv me my poor english.

Thankyou Ala42, I have just loaded the new version and all the write speeds are greyed out, you can't change them.
