| Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers Welcome to cdfreaks ![]() What media are you using ? Use DVD Identifier to produce a report about the media. Post the result of the Nero CD-DVD Speed burst transfer test, you need a disk with some data in the drive to run the test. It should display about 30 MB/sec. Check the DMA settings of your source and target drive.

| Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers Thank you very much for your speedy reply! Appreciated! Here is the report on the media: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:PRINCORGM1] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disc & Book Type : [DVD-R] - [DVD-R] Manufacturer Name : [Princo Corp.] Manufacturer ID : [PRINCORGM1] Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4.71 GB (4.38 GiB)] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- [ DVD Identifier V5.0.1 - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- here's the benchmark for above mentioned media with a movie: ![]() benchmark for an original DVD movie: ![]() and benchmark for above mentioned media without a movie: ![]() I get the impression that it couldn't be the media nor the DMA, as it reads fast on non movie DVDs, and it is slow on movie DVDs, whether original or not... Any ideas? Thank you very much! |

| Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers Liteon released the firmware packed and encrypted. You need the firmware in a raw format. Use the Flash Utility to read the firmware from your drive to a raw .bin file.

| Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers I have two questions about MCSE having not used it yet. The answers may be buried in these 38 pages, but a search didn't find them. When I load S0414431.118, I get the option to check RPC1 Patch. Once checked, it becomes grayed out and cannot be unchecked. Is that by design? Upon Save, the new file name is S0414431_speedpatched.118. Is it appropriate to flash (DVRFlash) with that name or need I rename it to an 8.3 name first? Does it matter what name or must it be S0414431.118 again? Thank you! Ray |

| Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers I was just turned on to your neat utility today. I was having problems with an SHW-160P6S bruner from LiteOn not recognizing Ritek S04 066 +R DL discs. Sure enough, when I loaded the firmware into your utility, the S04 066 was not even listed. I imported the info from LiteOn's DVD Identifier and saved the unscrambled .EXE as PS0C, which was already in the drive, but not edited. I re-flashed to PS0C (the speededited version), however despite reboots, the drive will still not recognize speeds for the S04 066 media. It knows it has the media in it and that it is blank and recordable, but doesn't know the speeds. I went back and loaded the original code into your utility, and now even the unmodified code shows the S04 066. I d/l'ed your utility again and unzipped it, thinking perhaps it added the disc to its own list somewhere, but it still appears even in the unmodified files. Not too concerned about that, but I would like your thoughts on why the drive apparently flashed but did not update. Do I need to downgrade to PS0B and then try again or what? Any help appreciated. Don't want to let these two spindles go to waste! Thanks, RadioResearch |

| SpeedEdit tool for DVD-ROM-drives? Hi! I'm new in this forum as a member, but I've read a lot here and I appreciate this place because of all reviews and tips and informations. I would like to know if the Speed Edit tool is for DVD-writers only or if it works with current DVD-ROM-drives as well. Does it? Thank you in advance! /molinarius |

| Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers @ molinarius, Welcome to the Forum. Perchance have you read the initial #1 posting in this thread and noted the title of this thread? If you note the title of this thread it clearly states “MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers”. If that isn’t clear then visit the Media Code Speed Edit tool HomePage (http://ala42.cdfreaks.com/MCSE) as suggested in the initial #1 posting in this thread which lists ALL the Drives that the Media Code Speed Edit tool supports. If your DVD-ROM Drive is not listed then the Media Code Speed Edit tool doesn’t support your DVD-ROM Drive. Regards, bjkg |

| Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers Thanks for welcome. Look, I did read both the the title and the list and I really wondered if I nevertheless should or could ask my question. I'm interested in LiteOn-drives and it's just them who are not in the list. Quote:

| Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers Does the pioneer 115 support allow you to disabled speeds? or is it like the 111 in that can only swap strategies, I'm thinking of picking up a new drive for an external enclosure, and I'd like to disable all speeds above 12x I think. Also, does the samsung 202 support allow speed disabling?, as these seem to be the two most promising drives to pick currently. maybe. |

| Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers Well IIRC LiteOn drives can be switched to RPC1 without any ROM hacking and have good rip speeds too, there wouldn't be much point. Support for a particular firmware version doesn't happen by accident and takes a lot of work. I think it's safe to assume that LiteOn DVD-ROM drives aren't supported.

| Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers Shame, which drives in general is speed disabling supported on? I don't see it mentioned specifically in the first post, I note from a nearby screenshot that lite ons seem to be, at least, as this may be a consideration on me deciding what drive to try. Thanks. |

![]() I believe that this implies that the flasher itself needs patching as shown here. (Page 3) http://club.cdfreaks.com/f150/pionee...tching-238902/ | |

| Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers Hi.. perhaps you have misunderstood me ... Pioneer works well .. firmware has been updated ... I also have a LG model H58N, and I want to make ripunlock (fast read) this recorder.. firmware can replace it, but the fast read option does not add on the H58N.. thanks.. |

| Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers Hi ![]() xbit, in the part of the post I quoted it does give the impression that the flash recognised the drive. But wouldn't flash it. So although you appeared to have got around it. I posted so that if others had a similar problem. They could see the possible answer. Anyway. Try this http://rapidshare.com/files/12257112...3_EW_.zip.html In theory it should work, but as I don't have that drive. I cannot test it. The file contains both the original f/w & the patched. The patched f/w is in second folder. |
