Internal Burner is Slow

I bought an external sony dvd burner, and it worked really fast, but i exchanged it for an internal 1 because the internal one was $80 cheaper. I installed it myself, and i may have done something wrong, but it didnt look like there were any areas i could have gone wrong. All the wires were secured tightly.

So, the internal burner is writing at about 1/10 the speed of what the same version of the external burner was.

Why? and how can i fix it?

-on the faq section, the only relevent thing was:
"Q: How can i maximize the high-speed write performance
A: Activate the DMA setting for your operating system"

I dont know what it ment, but can anyone help me?

Re: Internal Burner is Slow

the DMA is set to use DMA if available already though. Any ideas why my dvd burner may be slow?

When i was installing the hardware, i set the new burner up as the slave drive, and let the old crappy cd player as the master. They are both hooked up to the same fat grey wire with the pink stripe.

DMA if available is not the real setting. Is it DMA actually enabled?

Where is connected your internal drive? on primary or on secondary IDE channel?

Are you sure to set correctly jumpers?

Re: Internal Burner is Slow

well, on that fat grey wire with the pink stripe, i connected the second slot of it to my new burner. I have the jumper set for my new burner to be the slave drive.

Re: Internal Burner is Slow

Check if cables are connected correctly. Master device (HD in your setup if I understand correctly) must be connected to external plug, whereas slave device (the burner) must be connected to intermediate plug of the IDE cable.

@ Sheba,

Perchance are you aware that you are posting in the AnyDVD Forum?

Troubleshooting internal DVD Burner installations is not an appropriate topic for the AnyDVD Forum.

As suggested twice by Forum Member bilbo65 make your inquiries concerning your internal DVD Burner installations problem in the appropriate Forum (http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=61)

Best Regards,
bjkg

Download nero infotool here, run it and post results.

Sheba already know this. He already asked to a mod to move this thread. In the way you wrote your post it seems that you are suggesting to do a crosspost

From your screenshot it appear that DMA is not enabled.

Some mainboard require that DMA must be activated also in BIOS. Check it

Re: Internal Burner is Slow

See on post 17: DMA is off for DVD burner.

Try to unplug the CD player and leave DVD burner alone.
