Doublelayer Rewritable DVD possible? - Club CDFreaks

Hi,

I am just wondering when there will be rewritabel double-layer DVD media available, and when the first writers supporting this feature will become available. I have read such announcements some months ago, but haven't seen any products yet capable of writing dvd+rw DL.

Ist that technically possible? Who will produce these drives, and when will they become available?

NEC drives have had support for DVD+RW DL for some time. But as yet, this format has not been approved by the relevant body.

Really? NEC has it? But where can I get suitable media then? I have never seen such anywhere. And HD & BlueRay is still too expensive, and incompatible with my standalonedevices, so I think affordable DL rewritable media would be very useful to many people.

As Dee said, the DVD+RW DL spec has not been approved nor finalized by the DVD+RW Alliance, so there is no media to be found.

I know they don't exist, all I wanted to know if some company has announced this type of media.

JVC did for DVD-RW, IIRC, but none yet for DL RW...
