Well, lets get the models stright: Pioneer 110 or a NEC 4550 are the latest drives with no LightScribe. If you are using TYG02 discs go with the Pioneer 110. Pioneer is the KING of the -R media !!!

I actually found Pioneer drives are now better with +R; the drive I see as best for -R is the LG 4163. Given your two choices I would go with the NEC as there is much more support here. Either one will do a decent job with TYG02 but if you want truely outstanding results, switch to TY +R 8X, YUDEN000 T02.

What is LightScribe?, in what does it affect the drive/media?

And for the +r recomendation...
You saying that if i use +r TY02 Media i could get better results? (8x TY02 DVD+R)

In addition, the BenQ DW1640 does a great burn with TYG02 also. Only problem is finding one now...

LightScribe is a process that allows a burner to write graphics to the top surface of discs. It should have no effect on the burn quality on the other side.

I am saying, based on my results with TYG02 and YUDEN000 T02 in LG, BenQs, NECs, Liteons, and Pioneers, that the results were uniformly better with YUDEN000 T02 burned at 8X. I found one exception in the TYG02 burned at 4X in the LG 4163 A103.

In no way were the results on the TYG02 un-playable or bad. The YUDEN000 T02 were just significantly better. Given that I found the price to be only a couple of dollars more per 100, I switched over to the +R.

Ahem, I asked with a reason.

Read your topic title, then read some posts.

It's not clear which drive you really mean, at least to me.

Hehe, anyway. I've read it too fast. Sorry.

A DV110 doesn't exist, nor a 35550A.

110D/1640/3550(same as 4550)/1693 will be good to go!
1640 and 110 have a slight edge! Very slight!
Enjoy your Christamas man!
