quality of various burn software

After reading a few threads on here I was just wondering if anyone notices a quality difference in burning software? Most people talk about feature sets etc.

Im just talking in quality of the burn.

I have typically used nero or the built in burn software in slysoft.

I cant say I have used alcohol, roxio or others.

What about the free ones?

This is a pretty broad question and I guess the only way we could tell would be with a whole lot of disc scans from various people and software. If there is another thread on here please let me know.

Thanks

Im not sure what other members think, but I think for the most part the programs are similar.

The more important question to me is compression. Which programs compress the best.

But if you are talking dual layer, I only use IMGBurn, and sometimes DVDFab Platinum.

Re: quality of various burn software

For what I know, the burning software has no influence on the burning process, because it's not the software to burn the disc, but is the drive firmware.

The burning software is only an interface between the user and the firmware.

The only influence that can have a burning software is on the computer performance: some softwares are heavier than other, and can require much more resources.

If you run a heavy software on a slow machine, there is the probability that there will be buffer emptying, and this could influence the burning quality, mostly if the drive is forced to shut down the laser because of a buffer emptying. Frequently, in the point of the disc where the burning has been interrupted there is also a spike of PIF errors.
