Re: Prassi is back

Yep, the software is called ONES and it uses the brand new Prassi engine v2 (RecordNow uses v1 engine).

You can download a free 60 day trial from here:
http://www.traxdata.fr/www/pdf/ONES_Trial_Setup.zip
If you would like to purchase this nice app (costs only 15 Euro), head over to:
http://shop.traxdata.fr/boutique/liste_rayons.cfm (the website is in French, but the software is multi-lingual=>use Babel Fish to translate from French to English: http://world.altavista.com/)

Re: Prassi is back

Great, how about a manual of the product in english? Bablefish isn't going to help me translate a PDF manual!

How soon before they have an english version of the site? Or does the French's extreme distaste for the USA make an english page coming "when hell freezes over" ?

@ bucknasty:
The software and the help files are multi-lingual, only the website where you can buy the software is currently in French only. Please read my entire post next time before asking smth. that has already been answered!

I did read your answer.

I assume you read french, that is why I asked if you know when english PDF manual and webpage might show up.

I can't even email them to ask, since I don't read or speak french.

Re: Prassi is back

After 2 days of testing ONES, I decided to keep it and deinstalled all my other recording software: Sonic RecordNow 7 (used since 2 years), Roxio WinOnCD 5 (used since 3+ years).
This piece of software is rock-solid and you can perform other tasks while recording CDs/DVDs.
It has everything you need, a small file-size (under 6 MB) and takes almost no resources.
For now I am posting a few images at work, more will come later.

If you go through this link:

http://shop.traxdata.fr/

You can select English for the order and it's only 15 USD! I've also made it my default burning program. Very good interface and has all the options you would want.

Re: Prassi is back

I currently us Sonic RecordNow DX 4.61 and personally find it's the best program for making a DATA CD/DVD, so I downloaded and installed the Trial of ONES and made some DATA CD's and burned a few CD-R's in my new NEC 3500, no burn problems so far. Haven't tested DVD yet as RecordNow is burning those fine for now!

Only problem I've noticed with ONES so far is after I've burned a CD-R and exited the program it seems to lock my NEC 3500 in to either 4x or 8x read speed, even after opening/closing the tray. I thought it was the CD I had just burned, but when I opened RecordNow to use the Disc Explorer/drive properties that seemed to reset the drive and the disc then read at full speed?

Apart from that it's been OK!

Re: Prassi is back

One feature I loved about RNM was its ability to burn CD-R's with filenames with over 200 characters.

Does ONES allow this?

thanks..

Re: Prassi is back

This is good news. I have been using RNM V4.5, but this software is so outdated that it won't work with any of the newer burners. So when I upgrade this will probably be the route I go (I have always had bad luck with Nero's software).

Must be a combination of RecordNow DX 4.61 and the older PX Engine 507 update I have installed.

Re: Prassi is back

Looks like the price went up today. It's showing 19.90 euros or If you pick the USA as the destination country it's 16.64 uros. Still a good buy. I've tested it on a plextor px-712a and a DVR-108 both worked just fine.

Cant see where to import data from a multisession disc (recorded with nero)...
Im hoping it can do such things when recorded initially with itself....

Re: Prassi is back

ok, one more post on it.
Tested burning a cd-r and burns ok and verifies ok, and also imaged in dvd-rom ok.
Tested dvd+rw dvd incremental open, fine. Was not possible to close the disc however. Help file confirms this isnt possible with dvd+rw also (im sure ive done it with nero though).
Done quick erase, ok, done Full Erase and it doesnt do it the same as other s/w. The drive flashes twice, a few seconds pause between and flashes twice again, and so on for approx 14mins. Light stays on with other s/w?? , however the disc was empty.
I`ll be buying a copy after a few more days testing with dvd-r`s when i get some..

Re: Prassi is back

Recording speed seems lower too with my 3500, although the disc still burns fine. Burned 4Gb of DATA to a 8x DVD +R, set Recording speed to 8x and noticed the disc started burning at 3.9x then gradually increased to a final speed of 5.9x, not exactly 8x is it? Similar experience with a CD-R, set to 24x but starts at 16x and ends at 19x.

RecordNow actually seems to burn DVD's correctly in 'zones' as the time left counter jumps down twice when burning at 8x, around 1GB the time drops, at about 2.5Gb it drops again and the progress gauge jumps to accomodate the time! ONES seems to use a constant linear writing strategy?
