Burning DVD takes too much time

I am new in making a video. I use Ulead DVD MovieFactory to make my video. After editing, I tried to burn this video to DVD. First I used my Samsung DVD-RW on my Notebook, but it take too much time. I have spend 12 hours and I just have 30% of the process. So I cancel the process and try using my External Brenner - Philipps 16X DVD -R/+R. Yet it is laso the same. When I write this email, I just have 50% of the process after 13 hours.
Can someone help me to explain what is the problem? Thank you.

Re: Burning DVD takes too much time

Hi and Welcome!

13 hour seems not to be the plain burning time, but some processing is involved. Perhaps your computer isn't the fastest. Could you please post some specs?
Also, try not to burn directly to DVD, but let your software create an ISO file, that can be burned wit ImgBurn later. This would help sorting out if there is a problem with your drives.

The plain burning process should not take more that 15 minutes (4x speed), depending on your drives and media.

DMA doesn't matter with external drives. I suspect, the encoding process takes too much time. Even if there were DMA issues, the plain writing time shouldn't exceed 1 hour.

It does on the internal drive though.

HDD can be affected by DMA as well correct?

I think you are right about the encoding times though. Even with quality enhancements etc those times are way too long.

Re: Burning DVD takes too much time

Thank you for all comments.
My Note book still has 60GB capacity to save my work. My RAM is 1,5 GB. Samsung is my internal Drivebrenner with capabilty to read and write -R/+R.
My External Brenner is Philipps 16X. This morning I find that the process came to error. So after wait for 20 hours, I cancel the burning process.

Check your DMA and defrag your HDD...

Here is a DMA guide: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101616

Re: Burning DVD takes too much time

Ja. for me it takes time too much. Even I just burn another video using Nero Vision and it takes 4 hours. I don't burn to DVD, but just make ImgBurn first.

Re: Burning DVD takes too much time

Sounds like you're converting / encoding stuff rather than just burning it 'as-is'. That's why it's taking so long. The only way you can speed that up is to get a faster pc / upgrade your current one.

Re: Burning DVD takes too much time

I agree, if DMA is not an issue and defragging will only speed up the process slightly your only option might be to upgrade .

Re: Burning DVD takes too much time

Have you checked, if the ASPI-layer is correctly installed and working?

Look under Link below for a little tool called ASPI-check, it is made by ADAPTEC, who also make the free(!) ASPI driver (current version is something like 4.7x).

You save the ASPI-check in a directory of your choice, it is a small .exe-file, that will not install anything, just pops up a small window telling you, if ASPI-driver is there or not.

ASPI-check: http://www.chip.de/downloads/c1_downloads_13006503.html
ASPI-driver: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/Oth...ver-v472.shtml

This little driver is very small, but if missing, you will get terribly slow burning times. Don't know, if it is the problem in your case, just check it out.

Aspi is absolutely not needed on W2k, XP and Vista. It can even cause problems.

Re: Burning DVD takes too much time

Sorry, but that is not quite correct, IMO.
Apart from having installed Windows XP SP2, having worked with DVDs for more than 4 years (at approximately 3-5 different discs a day), having during that time made fresh re-installs of my system about twice per year, I can tell you that ASPI is needed in certain cases and has caused me never any problem, as long as it was there!

The burning times I get with a Plextor PX-755A differ GREATLY (difference of over an hour w/o ASPI and 15 min. with it at 4x for the same DVD-Video-disc!). And I tried Nero 7, Prassi ONES, CloneDVD as well as DicsJuggler (and a few others...).

ASPI is NOT always neccessary, but if the burning times are as slow as all that and other possible causes of trouble have been ruled out, it is good advice to go check on the ASPI-layer.

So please check up on your information.
