Best software for Vista Ultimate 64-bit?

I just installed Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition. I tried using Ahead Nero 7.10.1.0 and ImgBurn 2.3.2.0. Both seem to finish burning a dvd iso but it stops when it gets to the "synchronizing cache" part. Usually the cd is supposed to eject after it's finished burning, but it never happens. I left my computer for an hour with both programs still stays it's "synchronizing cache" or something to that effect. And it sounds like the drive is still spinning even though the activity led isn't light up. I have to reset my computer in order for me to eject the cd. Is there a software that works perfectly with a 64-bit Windows OS?

ImgBurn works fine for me on Vista Ult. 64b have you selected the checkbox that says "Eject tray after write"? if you don't select it, it won't eject. As for nero as far as i know it has problems with vista

Re: Best software for Vista Ultimate 64-bit?

This doesn't sound like a burning software issue, it sounds as though your drivers are messing things up and preventing sync cache from working properly.

ImgBurn sends the command and then polls the drive to see when it's done. If it never says it is, ImgBurn just sits there waiting patiently! You can't eject the CD because the tray is locked. If your machine was responding properly, it wouldn't be an issue/hard to unlock it.

So basically, you need to start looking elsewhere for the root cause of the problem.

Re: Best software for Vista Ultimate 64-bit?

I think something is up with the 64-bit version of Vista. I'm not quite sure what the problem is, but when I was using the Vista Ultimate 32-bit edition, I never had any problems with any burning software. Oh well. I've been using a cd-rw to burn isos so far and installing apps and games from them works just fine even though I have restart my computer because of the synchronizing cache problem. Funny thing is that when I try to erase a cd-rw with IMGBurn and after two seconds it says "finished erasing" even though it hasn't done anything where as doing it through the integrated Windows thing erases the cd for me.

I just installed Nero 8.1.1.10 and I don't get the error about synchronizing cache anymore and the dvds actually finish burning. It still has a problem with erasing RWs, but that's a minor problem as I don't use re-writable discs often anyway.

Re: Best software for Vista Ultimate 64-bit?

Are you sure you don't just have generic burning issues caused by a bad drive/media/firmware combo?

When ImgBurn is seemingly stuck on the Sync Cache operation you can press F8 and watch the commands being sent to the drive via the log window. If commands aren't being sent then the OS/driver/drive has stopped responding and there's nothing I can do about that. If they are, the 'sense area' info will tell you what the drive is reporting - normally it'll be 'logical unit not ready - long write in progress' or 'logical unit not ready - operation in progress'.

Re: Best software for Vista Ultimate 64-bit?

The drive seems to think it's still busy finishing off the burn.

If it didn't, it wouldn't be returning that status code.

Nothing I can do with that I'm afraid.

Re: Best software for Vista Ultimate 64-bit?

I have had the same types of issues using various Samsung DVD drives under MacOSX.

I do not use Vista.

In the FAQ at www.patchburn.de states that some Samsung drives are not fully supported

PatchBurn is a tool to patch existing CD/DVD-drivers (under Mac-OS X 10.2.x) or to generate and install new device profiles (under Mac-OS 10.3.x and later)

It allows many, otherwise unsupported burners to be used directly with Mac-OS X, iTunes and DiscBurner.
