"A New Brunswick man who told police that a friendly dog scuttled his plan for a bloody shooting rampage was sentenced Wednesday to a three-year prison term after admitting it was all a ploy to get life-saving surgery while in jail," the Canadian Press reports from Toronto:

Ontario Court Justice Brent Knazan described James Stanson as a "manipulative, duplicitous, entitled con-man" who headed to east Toronto last June "to hatch a plan that would lead to his detention (and) the medical treatment he needed."

"It is important that I give a sentence that denounces (Stanson's) conduct and deters anyone else from doing the same," Knazan said, rejecting the defence's request for a sentence of one year, less a day, to be served in the community.

But Stanson's plan worked; he did indeed get the heart operation he needed while he was in custody. Self-righteous Europeans and Canadians love to call America "barbaric" for our private medical system and our refusal to abolish capital punishment--but at least we don't sentence innocent people to death, as Canada's medical system effectively does.

The number in parenthesis is how many people reported getting that media. It kind of looks like memorex is up to thier same old shit of using whatever media they can get cheapest. If they are, even more media codes could show up. I think that I have heard of some memorex 16x+r that was made in india which would have to MB so thats 5 medias they are using so far. I suspect that most of it will turn out to be cmc but who knows. I'm guessing that they are probably getting the mcc from cmc (same way ritek can be ritek or ricoh) so maybe well get lucky and start seeing a bunch of mcc, but I doubt it. I do not think that anyone has seen any made in japan memorex 16x yet.

In all honesty, while they use several medias, they all seem to be decent media so it's probably safe to buy, bt not the best if you are looking for specific media from the made in tiawan list.

It might not hurt to see if compusa will price match bestbuys price. I know that best buy is not open yet but it might not hurt to call and talk to a manager. If you catch them in a good mood I think that they hae a lot of leway on their decisions.

I just bought at Best Buy 50 TDK 8x DVD+R for $19.99 which say Made in Taiwan and 25 Memorex 16X DVD+R for $9.99 which also say Made in Taiwan. Can't do a scan to see the Mfr, still waiting on Newegg to deliver my new BenQ 1620. Check everything on the shelf and none were MIJ, only Taiwan.

Yeah, the +R TDK, mostly made in taiwan, but I found most of the -R TDK are made in Japan at CompUSA. CompUSA pricematch policy is that they will beat the competitor price by $1, so if you can get pricematch, the price will be $18.99. Too bad for me, no Bestbuy in Hawaii so no PM for me. And I just got back from CompUSA, good news, they still have a lot of Sony +R/-R are made in Japan. the -R is sony01D8 and the +R are TY. So I am waiting for CompUSA to have either TDK deal or sony deal

[ TDK's ]: Best Buy had only Made In Taiwan 8x +R's as well. One of the managers mentioned he hasn't seen MIJ TDK's in a long time. I think I'll have to look into teapot's suggestion of CompUSA PM's. Hopefully, they've got some MIJ TDK's in stock.

[ 16x vs. 8x Media @ 16x Burn ]: I've been trying to keep a chart of scan data (primarily for BenQ 1620's) as I view posts here. I don't know, from what I can tell, people seem to be doing awfully well burning TYG02's (8x -R) @ 16x burn. I haven't come across enough 16x Media scans to make a judgment on those.
