TDK 4X BOGO at Costco (11/26-11/28)

Today I went to my local Costco and while leaving, I was handed a sales ad for the weekend following Thanksgiving (11/26-11/28). In there was a BOGO coupon to get TDK 4X DVD+R (25-pk). The retail price for a pack of these is $15 or .60 each.

While at Costco, I saw there were ALOT of thin black bottom spindles and VERY FEW thick black bottom spindles. I know the thin bottoms are CMC, but what is the MID for the thick black ones? Are they RICOHJPN-RO1, but I thought those were grey bottoms only.

Anyways here is what the ad looks like...

The spindles with the thick black bottom are Ricohs. http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...6&postcount=22

Not necessarily true (and, possibly, vice versa?). Just picked up my 2x25 spindles for $15 today. Both spindles are the "thin bottom" and the MIDs are RICOHJPNR01.

Also, my last spindle of 25 was the thick black bottom and they were CMC MAG F01.

Still a crap shoot if you ask me!

Re: TDK 4X BOGO at Costco (11/26-11/28)

lightning9, on the UPC code it reads:

767068 -- just above the UPC code
2035648280 / DVD+R47CCB25TP -- just below the UPC code

** from this info, is there a way to tell if they are indeed CMC or RICOH media. I don't have a DVD-RW at the moment to check the MID.

** also, the disc has a blueish/purpleish color & Made in Taiwan

According to http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.ph...=1023#comments , looks like I got the CMC MAG.F01 media. Oh well.. it pays to check closely at the UPC code before buying

I don't have the spindles here at work. I will try to remember to look when I get home. I do remember that the UPC code was a sticker on the outside of the shrinkwrap covering the original UPC code inside and it did say "Made in Taiwan."

I still assert that you cannot be sure what you are going to get based on the UPC code, spindle base color/thickness, etc. I have just seen too many instances where that did not hold true.

I do have some of both media here at work. I compared the dyes and it does sound like you got the CMC media. My CMC dye appears more blue/purple where the RICOH dye is lighter and more green/blue.

All of this aside, I was very dissapointed when I got a spindle of the CMC F01 media because I had heard/read many complaints BUT I have had very good luck with this spindle! My LiteOn 812s burned them at 8x excellently using a patched version of the VSOB firmware for the 832. My BenQ 800/822 works well with them, too, and I haven't had a single problem with any of the resulting movies.

So, what burner are you using and what is your target usage (data or movies)?

Re: TDK 4X BOGO at Costco (11/26-11/28)

lightning9, I'm gonna get a BenQ DW1620 for Xmas. My primary uses for DVD+/-Rs include movies & data. I have some Sony DVD+RWs to backup alot of my Divx/Avi videos which I have ALOT of them. However, I don't think I'll use the CMC media for my movie backups. I have TYs/Sony D11s for that purpose.

FWIW, mine have the same UPC code but not the other writing below it. Also, looking at my RICOH media at home, it looks purplish/bluish. ????

DW1620 for Christmas, eh? I have been drooling over that one for a while and am also thinking of asking Santa for one. Let me know how it works for you...

I thought that TTG01 were 4x and TTG02 were 8x. I've read in some other posts here that TDK 8x -Rs had the TTG02 code.
