Re: Staples-Teon deal

looks like the -r's burn fine at 8x, but the +r's are not so good at 8x. Looks like I'll stick with 6x on them. Btw, I've burned both formats with a pioneer 107d and nec 3500a.

Re: Staples-Teon deal

How was the resulting burn quality of the Teon 8x -R discs? Did you happen to do any PI/PO scans?

Re: Staples-Teon deal

I don't have a liteon drive, so I can't do a pi/po scan. I did a read test with cd speed and they are fine, unlike the +r's I burn coasters at whatever speed. I took those back and exchanged for more of the -r's.

Re: Staples-Teon deal

If you bought the 8x DVD-R discs (don't know about the 8x DVD+R discs), your rebate was likely denied by the rebate center. They don't have the UPC code for the 8x Teon DVD-R discs in their system as a valid UPC code for the rebate.

Re: Staples-Teon deal

I just bought 2 pks (20 ea) of TEON DVD+R 8x and 2 pks (20 ea) of TEON DVD-R 8x and I've burned 3 from each of the +/- pkgs and have had errors in writing to sectors. As I look at the burned area of the disc I can see spots in the shape of droplets in roughly the same sector of each disc. When I play these discs, the audio is fine but the video is fragmented at certain places.

I have used HP & Fuji disc with no problems. These TEON 20 pks where sold at Staples for $4.95 each in mid december 2004.

Will take back for credit and never use again. Oh, by the way, I use a Pacific Digital 8X Mach-8 DVD Multiformat Burner "and" 1 Click DVD Copy with out any problems what-so-ever, except TEON Disc. Good Luck if you have them.

Re: Staples-Teon deal

I bought a few of the 20 packs in 8x DVD-R flavor. They were CMCMAGAE1. I just bought them to give away to friends when required since they were so cheap. They burnt fine at 4x in my Pioneer DVR-106D and DVR-108. I didn't try to take them any faster but they played fine in my Apex AD-1500 and my XBOX v1.0 Phillips drive.

The spots make me wonder if you got some from a bad batch. It seems kind of strange that it would happen one both the +r and -r though (what are the chances of getting bad lots from both at the same time). I also have a pacific digital mach-8. They can actually be several diffrent drives. I would find out what the actual manufacture of the drive is and update the firmware. The +r (cmcmage01) were only introduced around july of this year if I am not mistaken. It's quite possible that your drive was made before these disks even exsisted, and it would therefore not be able to burn them properlly without a firmware update.
