Sony DRU180A Black IDE OEM DVD Burner $19 (Starts Thursday @ 6AM PDT)

NewEgg has the Sony Black IDE OEM DVD Burner for $19 with free shipping.

This is a Shell Shock promotion, so sale starts 6AM PDT on Thursday and will end at 6PM PDT the same day or until the inventory lasts.

Straight from Slickdeals again. Figured some of you might want to get in on this. Remember, does not start until tomorrow. If you get the email from newegg, then the Shellshocker link may be in there. if not, google it.

Good luck with it.

What is this a rebadge of? It looks like an NEC AD-7190/AD-7191, which were rebadged Lite-On DH-20A3s.

I was wondering the same thing. I could use (yet) another DVD-RW right about now...

The Sony DRU-190A is rebadged DH-20A3P. Could Sony have 2 model numbers for the same rebadge?

This is an 18x drive. The 190A was a 20x drive. It could be that this is a downclocked 20A3P/190A/7190A. There's also the possibility that this is a downclocked iHAP120 [translation: DH-20A6P].

I just realized that this must be a Sony AW-G170A, which is an NEC AD-7170A. I forgot that this was 18x and not 20x, as Albert pointed out.

Funny thing about it is, if the Sony box and picture of the drive are correct, the status LED and emergency eject hole don't line up.

Sony seems to have a bunch of Optiarc-lookin' front bezels for a lot of its drives now.

The specs match the 7170A, but the faceplate matches the 7190A. What the hell is this thing?

It's an Optiarc...we just don't know which one.

It's either an AD-7170A or an AD-7190A. Someone will have to buy one and test it to know for sure.

If anyone is still interested, my sony dru-180a has a mediatek chipset and is recognized by smartburn. Capable of burning @ 20x too, according to nero and imgburn. Not sure what I have now.

Re: Sony DRU180A Black IDE OEM DVD Burner $19 (Starts Thursday @ 6AM PDT)

IIRC, the DRU190A is the 20A3P, or, 7190A.

The DRU180A is listed as an 18x drive, firmware indicates it may be a LO 18A1P, so it is NOT a 20x burner by default.

It shows 18x on the box too. Not sure why 20x shows up in nero and imgburn though.
