This week Office Max has some 8X DVD burners for $69.99 after $50 MIR. They have at least 3 brands, Pacific Digital, Mad Dog, and Micro Advantage.

The Pacific Digital can be an NEC 2500A, a Lite On 811s, a Lite On 851s, or a BTC. There's a key to serial number/brand associations in this thread:

The serial # is on one of the side panels.

The Mad Dog seems to always be the NEC 2500A with a black faceplate according to posts I've seen here, and the one I got is. Mad Dog also gives a 2 year warranty. (All the PDs they had were 42* serials, probably Lite On 851s)

AFAIK, the Micro Advantage is always a BTC.

If anyone knows of other OEM drives sold under these brands, please add to the list.

They also have the Micro Advantage 52X32X52 CDRW for $9.99 after $30 MIR. Both Micro Advantage 52X CDRWs I have are Top Glory brand, made in China. Haven't tested the 52x32x52 yet, but the 52x24x52 I got last year seems to work ok, though quite not as fast as my Lite On 52246 and I only tested it with a few discs.
