I didn't get a bestbuy ad this week (I think thats a first). I'm not sure if they just left it out of a few newspapers or if they have something special going on where they decided not to put the ad in the early edition? Also, since I am running late for work and the staples ad has already been posted and discussed, I skipped it (will give links). Also, forgive me if I missed something, but I did not see any sun/mon only sales except, circuit city said hundreds of unadvertised specials, sun/mon only.

Wow, nothing this week is a must-have...

The Magavox 50 packs seem like the best deal, but still not the best price for CMC Mag AM3 (I would skip the +R).

Does anyone know what media code the Maxell DVD-RW discs are from Office Depot, and are they 4x? Thanks in advance.

Best Buy has Dynex 50 packs for $8.99, +R is RICOHJPN R03, -R is RITEK F1 and MCC03RG20 (I can't recall if the MCC is legit or how it performs if it's fake).

What about the external Lite-On burner at OD? Any thoughts?

I'd prefer HP AM3s, so I'll skip it, but if you did want them then buy the 100-pack of -R and use the OM $10off$20 available on SD or FW. Your price is $14.99 for a 100-pack.

Of course, you only want the -R Riteks if they're 16x F1s and not 8x G05s. Most of the combo packs have contained 8x DVD media, but that may have changed recently.

Mad dog 18x writer at CUSA for $30 after rebates

Anyone know what drive this is? Is it an excellent, good or bad drive?

I noticed there were 2 slightly diff versions of the box [the roxio logo pictured was diff] and there was a diff Vxxxxxx number on the end of the box.

Do you in fact get the FULL version of the roxio software or is it an LE or dumbed down version, like the very basic version of Nero you get with most drives?

Any help would be appreciated. If its a waste of time, then just say so.

Mad Dog use to be repackage of NEC drive but these new one may be different, also you notice the drive (Mad dog in CUSA) comes with LightScrible.

why bother with compusa rebadges when the real originals are at newegg for $30?

I have got to agree with that. you can get most drives (nec, liteon benq etc.) for about 30$ on newegg these days. The only reason that I bought one locally on my last drive was it was only 35$ (samsung 18x w/light scribe, the non light scribe was 30$, at microcenter, no rebates).

Plus with repackage you get the drive in retail box that means comes with screws, cable and software.

That could actually be a plus for some. If you are a new buyer and need parts, or dont have nero (maybe your last drive came with roxio)? there are sometimes plenty of pluses with retail drives as far as what is included so you are better off if you can get one cheap). Personally, I have a dozen flat ide cables (I just throw them away sometimes if they are not nice). As far as screws, I bought hundreds of spares from a local junk dealer (closed now and the drive is long to their other store for parts), I am low on screws and standoffs and could use many. I have 3 or 4 (or more) nero oem disk laying around unused.... they are usually not the full version anyway and I run the full version on all my computers....

To make a long story short, I have too much crap and have a buying addiction (relative to free money of course, to an extent).

On a side note, I have 198 pm's (always trying to cut them down), and only 200 are allowed. First person to pm me in the US gets a free nero oem disk (after 2 pm's, I wont get them so dont try). I wont spend more than a dollar or two on shipping so its a padded envelop marked do not bend, hope you get it unbroken.

I might sent two (can only get two messages anyway), if i can find 3 or 4. They may be used and or stripped down versions (no idea, not going to look). What the hell am I going to do with them, I have only used an oem version in a pinch. Fyi, post if you pm, so when others see a couple of posts they know they are gone. Again, I'll pay shipping (so totally free), but only a buckk or too (cheapest way). please dont ask if you already have nero, unless you need a copy for another computer really bad. I would rather it go to someone that doesn't have nero, including newbies.

Almost forgot, the samsung came with a nero disk in a plastic bag (oem).

Edit again, these are probably nero 6, not 7.

I agree, my point was toward first time DVD drive buyer which may need screws, cable and burning software also when you get retail version you get warranty directly from manufacturer while on OEM you get it from different source.

How do you like the Samsung burner?

I haven't had a chance to install it yet. I have 4 other burners so I'm not really in a big rush. I'll post when I do install it and try it out though (maybe on Friday as it is my next day off).
