Re: Newegg and free shipping!

Shipping charges sometime can determine if an item is a bargain or not, I thougt that applied here. If i was in error I apologize.

No apology needed, I think you're in the right place and it does apply to bargains.

And yes I've noticed Newegg offers less and less products with free shipping.
I suppose it may be related to the higher cost of fuel and shipping charges that they no longer can absorb. That being said, they are still a great company to business with and I've never been disappointed with my purchases.

Newegg ended their exclusive contract with FedEx, and now push UPS shipping. FedEx is still available but without the heavy discount. Fuel costs are not terribly important due to the fact that about 3/4 of UPS total cost is unionized labor.

Re: Newegg and free shipping!

If this is the case and we have to pay higher prices for 1655 and shipping cost then may be buying from retail stores (Staples, CC, BB Compusa and OM)even if we have to pay few dollars more we would be better off incase for exchanges or return there is no hassle or shipping back charges.

Re: Newegg and free shipping!

take a look @ the twits who return DVD burners around here if they don't get a QS of 99 with CD-DVD Speed. Think of how Newegg likes that, and imagine why they might get sick of paying for it.
Personally i like newegg's prices, but wish they'd combine shipping more readily.

anyone who's doing error scanning and interpreting the graphs has an idea of what they're doing as far as dvd burning goes. If they're unsatisfied with the product do they not have a right to return it?

There's individual difference from drive to drive. If I was getting consistently poor scans that I couldn't resolve and that began with the acquisition of a new drive, I'd certainly RMA the drive as well.

Re: Newegg and free shipping!

After years of shopping at newegg, me too, I am disappointed with newegg, not only they are charging more shipping but also increase their prices based on demand, one example is BenQ 1655, first offered at $51 for OEM and $55 for Retail, after one week of high demand suddenly they increased both by up to $10. This kind of business is disappointing and is to their disadvantage as they will lose valiable customers like people here who buy almost any new technology that comes out and they are smart shoppers. I hope they are smar enough to go back to what they were before.

Or the $5.00 instant rebate but then they charge you $4.99 for shipping. Yahoo! Big savings.

Exactly, and it's cheaper and more reliable than anywhere else I have ordered from online. I know I can get pretty much anything I need from them at a reasonable price with decent shipping prices.

Can everyone stop demanding the items I want, so I can get it for less? Just playin'.

Re: Newegg and free shipping!

The only way to get it for less is to buy direct from China. Merchant get it on the pennies, sell it to you wholesale price at a little more then it cost them to makeup for your convenient.

Re: Newegg and free shipping!

Depends on the item. I still see free shipping here and there on Newegg. But most of us are not concerned with the shipping cost as long as the final price is still a good deal, thats all matters

Re: Newegg and free shipping!

It seems that even when NewEgg usually does not include s/h that it is far more reasonable than other places. For example, I've ordered burners that were rated at "3 lbs" for the package, and cost $3.85 (UPS) or the former FedEx @ $4.50. I've never bought an item when it happened to have "free shipping." On the other hand, I've ordered 520-DVD capacity wallet binders from AllmediaOutlet, and for UPS shipping for that item (that maybe goes 1 lb with the popcorn and box), they list it as "3 lbs" and they upped their s/h from $7.06 to 9.06 from CA to TX. They declare 2 more lbs than the pkg weighs, and rip me off (and everyone else) on the s/h, so they lie to keep an extra $4 per pkg. easily. This tells me at least NewEgg is honest with the shipping they charge, as it (for me) accurately reflected the weight and actual cost to send it. I even called FedEx and UPS to see what it would cost me to send the item, the box, etc., and it was exactly or very close to what they would charge me (that NewEgg charged originally) to send it back. So I have no complaints whatsoever about NewEgg's s/h, because they are honest about it.

Re: Newegg and free shipping!

Yo-

Newegg is in business to make a profit-

They get to give lower prices due to the sheer volumn that they deal with every day and a whole bunch of very satisfied customers-

Their customer service is excellent - one of the very best in the business-

Their shipping is very reasonable and they ship as fast or faster than any other company I have dealt with-

The only area that I did not find them very competitive in - was their digital camera prices - which were some of the very highest on the net when I purchased another digital camera recently (got kicka$$ deal on a Fuji E550 from buy.com)

Bottom line - I and a whole lot of fellow freaks spend a lotta money at the 'Egg' - and rightfully so-

Mike

Re: Newegg and free shipping!

One should also not forget that "Newegg East" ChiefValue.com usually has a different price on every item, also if they stock it in NJ those of us East of the Mississippi get faster delivery by ordering from them... Yes, it's sometimes a pain to have to split orders between Newegg and ChiefValue, but you can usually save a few bucks that way....

You should check Pricewatch.com every once in awhile if you think Newegg is the cheapest. Don't get me wrong. I think Newegg is great and all their stuff is brand new. It's just that if more online retailers were discussed here, we would get a better idea of how the rest really are, and if we could trust resellerratings.com and the opinions on Pricewatch.

Perhaps you just discovered the idea of future forums. Posters here get together and send a member on a buying spree of China, and form a wholesale club (or better yet a completely new online store!).

Just imagine a new thread -

JUST BACK FROM THE ORIENT AND HAVE THE 100 BENQ'S AT $15 PER.
WILL BE DROP SHIPPED TO ALL.

Yeah, right... $15 is less than the bill of materials total.

These drives are f.o.b. priced in the $30s, and good luck trying to privately transport a hundred of them!

Thanks for the link, I have known about Pricewatch.com for a long while now, I use their site to check the average price of items.

Some of those companies have outrageous shipping prices, I have even found some that have different "packing plans." Yes, thats right, they want you to pay a few extra bucks for good packing material (BzBoyz used to, I know.)

I just went to Pricewatch.com, and every component in my computer is cheaper at Newegg.com.

I know I can depend on Newegg, and I will order from them even if it costs me a few extra bucks, they have always taken good care of me.

getting newegg blurbs in my boxes from chiefvalue.
