Softwareandstuff.com ($3.99) shows it is version 6.0.0.6 and isellsurplus.com shows it is version 6.6. Does anyone know if the versions are indeed the same?

Whenever I have purchased Nero Suite 6 I have updated through Nero's website to the most current version, so the original has been unimportant. Nero currently shows a free version as well, not updatable. I'm not sure about it but it might be worth looking at.

It's not the free one posted as above by chas0039, but it's slightly newer. The link points to a trial version that you can buy later. I vaguely remember reading something about in the update they allowed slightly more data on the cd-r's or something like that.

i been using 6.6.0.0 since i dloaded it off the net way back when it came out. i think it was off some news website that said it was off a magazine or something. Burnt many 100s of dvds/cds , not one single nero-related problem. one of the reasons why i'm not gonna try out the 50 updates that came out since 6.6.0.0, it just works unlike half the posts i read who apply updates just cus they're there. my motto = if ain't broke, don't go out of ya way to break it more.

It is probably a marketing ploy to draw you to shop from them in the future.

I agree w/ creaky the only reason to download updated versions is if you software is faulty, fails to support new media's/other software &or it poses a security risk. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Another place sells the Nero EOM suite for USD 5 plus USD 3 for shipping, altogether USD 8.

Suite 3 has DVD (MPEG2) encoding, it would normally be supplied with a DVD writer as an OEM bundle, but is useful with a CD-RW if you want to do SVCD.

Suite 1 is the normal CD-RW OEM - it can do VCD (MPEG1) encoding, but not SVCD/DVD video encoding - other than that, it is usable with a DVD writer. If you don't do DVD-Video, then suite 1 should be adequate.

I hope the move to "Express" means the end of drive-locked bundle versions, or some people may be VERY unhappy with their OEM!

Basicaly I just bought a DVD -/+RW drive and intend burning movies. I also want to do that video thing but I bought 'V-Stream Xpert DVD Maker' for that and the software with it 'Cyberlink Power Producer 2 Gold' does the video transfer thing. Knowing this, would it be wise to suggest that I now would get away with buying the suite 1 Nero? Thanks in advance

If your DVD-video making is already fully covered by the other stuff, then Suite 1 should be an adequate general purpose burning software.

Nero's own DVD encoder is not highly regarded, so you're probably better off using something else to do that task anyway.

I may be missing something, but my recollection is:
In Nero 5.5, the DVD encoder is an extra, even for full retail
In Nero 6, it's included in retail, registered and suite 3, but not in suite 1 - any other differences are likely to be pretty minor.
