Re: Maxtor 200gb sata or pata $59 shipped

Yo-

The outpost site shows the first one (EIDE) with free shipping - and the second one (SATA) shows as shipping being added to the price (in my case $10)-

Otherwise a good find-eh!

Re: Maxtor 200gb sata or pata $59 shipped

Oops. Correct.

I picked up an EIDE drive in person while passing through Houston a couple of weeks ago for $57 + tax, and yesterday decided to check their website for the item.

Also, I noticed someone here said that this must be old stock because drives are no longer being produced with the Maxtor name on them, since their merger.

The Fry's ad in this morning's Houston Chronicle showed a 250 gig SATA Maxtor for $69.99.

Yo-

That is correct-eh!

Seagate announced that they are discontinuing the Maxtor name - but will use their facilities to build new Seagate drives-

Hey bigmike: I have been seeing these Mators on sale for about a month now. I just bought a new WD250gigSATA3.0gbs HD for 89.99 with a 10.00 rebate@ Newegg, so the final price was 79.00+ 5.00 shipping. It has a 3 year warranty and I am getting 16mbs of cache instead of 8mbs. Its only a 20.00 difference but I think the Western Digial outperforms the Maxtors. This is the drive, it doesn't show the rebate now but it had it when I bought it. Do you think its worth 20$ more or did I overpay?

Re: Maxtor 200gb sata or pata $59 shipped

Have Staples Price match, take additional 10% price matching off the price, $53 is the final price. Staples folks are easy and friendly, they will do it

couple things that *could* be a problem with this.

Fry's isn't as common of a chain as staples ESPECIALLY not in the northeast...I've never seen a fry's in my life. so pricematching is assuming the person has a fry's in their area.

secondly, fry's themselves considers their B&M store and their online store totally separate. you can't even return an online product to the store. it's possible that their competitors view it the same way so unless you can get a hold of an actual paper ad with this sale in it you might be out of luck.

then again staples might not check for anything so it's certainly worth a shot.

also price matching doesn't take 10% off the price...it takes it off of the price DIFFERENCE. if staples has the item for only $10 more than at fry's that means you only get an extra $1 off.

Yo pipemanid-

My local paper the San Mateo Times business section article said that Seagate was discontinuing the Maxtor line-

Trying to find that article...........

Makes more sense to keep a well developed and marketed product line - intergrated into the new corporation - but that was not what my local paper said - will try and find it-

Re: Maxtor 200gb sata or pata $59 shipped

You can take Fry's Electronic AD to Compusa or Staples and ask for the price match, I did this yesterday for Antec 500W power Supply sale in Fry's for $49.99 and regular price $109.99 @ Compusa but with price match I got for $49.99.

Re: Maxtor 200gb sata or pata $59 shipped

hahaha, bringing to compusa??? compusa policy is to beat it with $1. So they only match the price, they did not beat it, they own you $1. I dont like their poor Price Match policy. They are willing to beat the competator price by $1. Best Buy and Staples are not only matching, they beat the price by 110% of the price difference. Staples is selling this drive for $110, the difference is $50, 110% of $50 is around $5.50. So the drive after price match at staples would be $54.50. But staples staffs are easy and they are willing to beat the price without calling around to check if fry's have the drive in stock. They are easy.
