If the Fujifilm disks are Made in Japan (MIJ) they are "Excellent" disks made by Taiyo Yuden, which most people on this forum consider among the best.

Avoid the Fujifile disks that are Made in Taiwan (MIT). IMO These are not nearly as good as the MIJ disks.

Re: Fujifilm 100-Pack DVD+R $34.99 at Best Buy

thanks for the info. i had surmised from lurking on this board that MIJ were superior. I was scouring staples yesterday for those verbatim discs, but found none. I did, however, stop to check out some other media and was having a hard time finding the "made in" label. I'll have to check these ou this week, althoug my instinct tells me that if they're this much on sale, they're probably the taiwan discs...

The Best Buy stores near me only have the "Made in Taiwan" discs in the 100 pack.

Re: Fujifilm 100-Pack DVD+R $34.99 at Best Buy

Just got back from my local BB in SC. They had about 50 100Pack Fuji +Rs. Only 2 of the 50 were MIJ, all the others were MIT.

I guess it's true - Fuji is switching vendors !!!

I just recently started looking into the Fuji disc's....this is what I found at my local BB. All of the packages said MIT, but on a closer inspection. When looking at the cake box from the top, directly on the disc some said MIJ?? Is that a normal situation?

It seems to be a favorite trick of store brands as of late. I personally wouldn't trust them. If you don't mind the -Rs you can get 100% bona fide Taiyo Yuden from www.rima.com. *EDIT* Damn, looks like you can get the 8x -R unbranded TY in 100 packs for less than $40 shipped now.

if your lookin for ty. see the staples colored fuji thread. all colored cake boxes that are mij are ty's. also i seem to get much better disc's with the fuji (colored ty's) than the regular fuji mij. some of the fuji's i bought at bb had the surface specks (as noted here also). my best ty's to date have been the sony dvd+r 8x mij ty's and the staples dvd+r 8x fuji colored ty's. i get fantastic burns with these discs.

Thanks for the info, I am glad I decided against buying them. Went with some Verb's instead.

If the package says "made in Taiwan", and the disk itself (right on the disk) says "made in Japan", then that disk IS a taiyo-yuden. What I would do is, take that exact disk to the manager, have him OPEN the package, and explain that the UPC/package says that this is made in Taiwan (Ritek media) But the disks inside are a completely -different- brand--Made in Japan Taiyo-Yuden's. And if you verify that each and every disk is MIJ, then buy it. and if its NOT (if some disks in the spindle are taiwan and others are japan), then he has to return the disks as 'defective'

He wont understand why, but once you explain to him that they are two totally different manufacturers, and Taiyo-yuden made disks are MUCH higher quality than Ritek media, then there shouldn't be a problem.

I don't think you can counterfeit genuine Fuji media....(and of course, you have the GG/TG codes on the underside of the ring, too....)

As cmisenko suggested, if you can get to a Staples, look at the Fujifilm 30-Pack DVD Color Towers that are on sale for $8.94 (see this thread). The "made in" label on those packs is just to the left of the UPC (bar code).

The Staples stores in my area (near DC) still have the MIJ packs in +R and -R mixed up with the MIT junk on the shelves. With a bit of luck you'll be able to pickup some great disks at a bargain price .

Most Fuji discs now are MIT. The -R ones are almost certainly made by Prodisc. The MIT +Rs are Ritek R03 I believe. Nifty looking discs but given my history with Fujifilm (even the MIJ ones), I won't touch them with a 40 foot pole. No matter how cheap they are.

I agree 100%. Good thing RIMA.COM is starting to lower its prices on genuine unbranded TY. You can get TY02's shipped for less than 40 bucks now. From my experience, the rima stuff far exceeds the performance of these Fuji TY's anyways.

However, the only drawback of the rima stuff is that the disks are freaking finger print magnets!!!

Re: Fujifilm 100-Pack DVD+R $34.99 at Best Buy

You know it sure would be nice if we could just look on the shelf and see TY's and not have to order online. I may be an oddity but I don't order anything online. I am running out of places to search for quality media, and playing hide and go seek with the Fuji's isn't my idea of fun.
