Just paying back I found out about a lot of good deals here in the freaks bargain basement. This deal came at a good time for me after going to best buy and the other stores at 10:00PM and seeing people in tents lined up around the building for the BF sales and I went home empty handed. It was a cold and rainy night where I am.

This is more enuff of a laptop than I'll ever need. I got mine right before I posted, I hope who ever else wants one gets one . Less than $9 for ground shipping and no tax for me and no camping out over night

On the main page of the website a Toshiba is where the Compaq was. Same thing 1 per household quantities limited. I guess they sold as many as they wanted to for $399.99

Mine came today and all I can say is I had no luck on BF but Cyber Monday was very, very good to me.

'Call for Availability' means Out of Stock with Fry's/Outpost so although you can place an order, you probably won't get it.

But it is worth a shot. The call for availability on frys had out of stock, backorder, usually ships in 5-7 days. Now searching for this Compaq c301nr laptop right now, it doesn't even come up.

It now lists it as in stock.

Frys must be playing peek-a-boo with this thing

EDIT and the burner does DVD RAM also

They have been in the computer business for years and still cant make a reliable computer

IMHO, I think they are no better than eMachine

So far I have not had a Dell to fail in 5 years. I always get the cheapest small business deal two times a year and pass the old ones to family ( all still running). Now, don't get me wrong, I wish I had a 500 watt PS so I could get ready for that new BR burner and high end video card. LOL

I know of plenty of Compaqs that are old and still running.

How old are we talking about?? the 386/486/Pentium 1 days??? Those were great, anything newer than pentium made by compaq are just yuky

I know a few people with newer ones that haven't had any trouble yet.

And for anybody that got this laptop or another HP/Compaq product, the HP webpage is up to submit for the free Vista upgrade. I just submitted mine, and emailed a scan of the invoice also.

I was able to pick one up for my hubby (he is not very computer savoy) and he loves it
does all he needs... Wish I could have grabbed one more.. but one per customer

Does what I need it to do also.... I wasn't looking for one of the best laptops out there but to use in my family room to surf and email and a desktop was outta the question IAW my wife :rotfl: And the Svideo output was a bonus to get videos off other PCs to output to my TV. I have 2 boxes set up in my basement also, to do the backing up and burning of my DVDs. All 3 are networked.

Don't forget the free upgrade to Vista so ya have it to use just in case ya wanna use it.....it's free
