Re: Cheap Philips Divix/ Dvd Player

it has upsampling feature and I guess no point of having S-Video, Video, or Coaxial output since this thing is upsample to 1080i. Because S-Video cannot produce image up to 480.

Re: Cheap Philips Divix/ Dvd Player

I picked one up yesterday, and found that, like the 642, it also plays movie files (mpeg) larger than 2 Gig that have been burned in UDF format, and xVid movies.

Can you confirm that it plays xvid files encoded with GMC/QPEL?

I could if I knew where (on the web, maybe?) to get such a file to test with. Can you give me a link?

OK can someone confirm that this is also region hackable or free, and will play PAL discs? That's more important to me than DivX/XviD and Qpel. Thanks.

Plays PAL with no trouble. I know there is a region hack out that works too.
The closed captions used with the AVI files was very important to me as my hearing is not what it used to be. Now sold out at Best Buy. Better luck next time.

DVP642 now available at Circuit City for $49.99 online. You can have it shipped free or do a store pick up.

I have both a DVP 642 and a DVP 3040. The DVP 3040 seems to be the better of the two players.
