Re: What's Muzak's CD Protection!? The old DMX media were CDs and yes they were using philips CD-i format. I've written a page on how to rip or listen to the tracks on a PC: http://www.cdtool.pwp.blueyonder.co....ipping_cdi.htm But they have moved onto DVD now and that uses a completely different system.

Re: What's Muzak's CD Protection!? Sh!t, I just got fired. Now I have nothing else to do. PSMplay *DOES* work! But the link is bad. For windows 2000, use this PSMplay: http://www.ngemu.com/download.php?action=file&id=999

Re: What's Muzak's CD Protection!? Erm... I don't know guys, it really seems like you're trying to get a wooden horse through the gates, but the horse is painted lime green and the walls are made of styrofoam... hehe... Bad analogy, sorry... Why not bypass the worthless black box, use a simple adapter cable to hook an MP3 player into the speaker system and load whatever LEGAL NON COPYRIGHTED music you want to it? It's so simple, and it works like a charm...

Re: What's Muzak's CD Protection!? Hi All- I am also interested in backing up a DMX music ProFusion X update disc. I am trying to convert the files to .wav or .mp3 format, but so far I am unsuccessful. I am able to open the DVD disc and view the data on the disc, but it appears that all of the files are in .pfc format (otherwise known as Perfect Fit Component). I am aslo able to extract the data onto my hard-drive, but I can't find a program to either extract it in the right format or convert it to useable data. There is not a lot of information out there relating to .pfc, so I am assuming that this type of file is not widely used. I am aware of how to successfully back up a DMX Prodisc DS CD, but the newer DMX ProFusion X is based on an seemingly different format since it uses DVDs instead of CDs. Any help or feedback related to this post will be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!

Re: What's Muzak's CD Protection!? I also gotta give a shout out to Truman...you are so awesome for posting info on how to convert the ProDisc CDs into .wav format. I have been waiting for over 5 years for someone with this type of computer knowledge to finally figure out the secret. You have no idea how happy you have made me and others around me!! You rock!!! A million thanks!!

Re: What's Muzak's CD Protection!? Ok, I feel like I'm so very close! I opened my disc in ISOBuster, found the file listing as described in Truman's tutorial, and extracted the music.xa file. I then used the psmplay that he linked to open the file. I can play it and hear music, and I can use the arrows to skip between four different "tracks". (Strangely, I'd never heard 3 out of 4 of the songs that start each track, even though the cd played in my store for weeks...) Next, I tried right clicking and choosing "Output to WAV", but nothing happens. The menu just disappears as if I'm about to get a dialog box, but nothing. I also tried "Output to mp3" but got the same result. Any advice?

Re: What's Muzak's CD Protection!? Hi - I made an earlier post asking if anyone had any leads on the DMX ProFusion X update cds that burned on a dvd not cd. I have one of the update cds and have managed to extract one some of the music files on the disc to my computer but they will not open with any programs, including PSM Play. If there is any way that I could email one of these files to someone in the group that has more extensive computer knowledge than I do, so that he may be able to figure out what is going on with these files that would be awesome!! Please let me know if this is a possibility. Thank you in advance!

Re: What's Muzak's CD Protection!? first post: i was looking for a way to get around muzak cds..make my own, whatever... it didnt take long for me to realize that i would be far easier to simply hookup a cdplayer/mp3 player via a headphone to AV input.. worked fine for me and instead of trying night and day to figure it out, just bypass it..

Re: What's Muzak's CD Protection!? I can say I have had sucess copying a Muzak cd (for backup purposes ONLY). Under Linux I was playing around with a few things and here is the code I used to copy the image to hd and then to disc..... $ cat /dev/cdrom > Muzak_021.img $ cdrecord -v -pad speed=1 dev=0,0,0 Muzak_* > Muzak_021.log Worked fine, although sometimes the player does not reconize the disc. I am willing to say it is because of the brand of CD-R's I used. NOTE: This test has only been sucessful on one CD out of 5, further testing will comince and I shall return with a solutition for this problem. The issue of converting an MP3 to a MPA file has not yet been exzamined. I have taken a look at the files and the layout of the data and not been able to notice a pattern on the encoding of the audio files. I will return with more data as soon as me and my partner finsh our studies on this subject.

Don't have the PSmplay actually playing the music when you go to select "output to WAV." If it's playing it won't show up, as you saw. Also you will have to select each track individually as it will only convert the one you currently have open in the player. My store has 4 separate "Hours" on each disc so to backup all of them I had to click the double arrows to skip to the next hour, stop and then click to convert. The reason you may have not heard all the songs might have had something to do with the programing for the shuffle either within the DMXplayer or in the CD itself. Hope that helps! ![]() | |

Re: What's Muzak's CD Protection!? ok, sorry to revive an older thread, but I'm hoping we can provide some answers to this question.... the newer Muzak CDs or DVDs, which are NOT CD-I format, are basically a boat-load of .MPA files that get copied to a little box (Encompass CM1 in my case) and then it acts as a little MPEG jukebox and plays songs according to the schedule, which comes as a .TXT file. There are also a few .IMG files that I haven't figured out what they do. On a Mac, .IMG is usually a disk image, but they fail to open. When opening the .MPA files with QuickTime, they fail to play although it recognizes them as MPEG Audio. I'm assuming they've got some kind of crazy encryption on them. So what I want to do, is somehow decrypt them and make a backup of the Muzak library to play from a computer. I have access to all the CDs that my store has received since the Muzak unit was installed last year. If I have to hook up to the unit somehow, I will. The available connections are as follows: RCA Outputs (4) RS-232 Reset button Ethernet Power Input So common everyone! Help me out!! I'm pretty much willing to do whatever I have to to help figure this out. All help is appreciated and I thank you in advance!
