What MP3 bitrate should 64k WMA be stored in?

Hi,

I'm using WM Recorder to record audio streams from my favourite Internet radio station. I want to take it with me on my MP3 player.

I was wondering what MP3 bitrate I need to convert this WMA to in order to not lose quality, yet not commit overkill in using a way too high bitrate and wasting precious MP3-player space.

Windows Mediaplayer says its a "64 K" stream (the WMA one).
What MP3 bitrate should I convert to?

Thanks.

PS. Yes, I know very little about audio.

Re: What MP3 bitrate should 64k WMA be stored in?

Because you're recording an audio stream and converting from one format to another, you will have quality loss already...
To retain quality you would need to use a ( Lossless) codec,e.g. FLAC ,WMA lossles etc...no gain ,no loss....
Having said that to convert you're MP3 (Lossy format) using a higher bitrate than the 64k,will only give you a bigger file with no quality gain...so use a bitrate no less than 64k...
JM2cents..good luck!
Now get "Back to the Future" mcfly,

So you're saying I'm just as well off converting to 64k MP3 as I would be to 320k MP3?

I find that hard to believe.
When I listen to streams on 96k MP3, it sounds absolutely terrible.
Same when I convert a 64k WMA to 96k MP3. Whereas if I do it in, say, 256k, it seems to sound identical to the original 64k WMA file.

You can't get back what is already lost..But only you can tell/hear the sound. If it sounds better for you than go for it...the key word here is "seems" to sound identical to the original"...
I have some 96k mp3's that sound good on my MP3 player....to each there own!...

Many mp3 players will actually play wma as well. Have you checked? If not, 96 or 128kbps mp3 should be more than sufficient for your purpose I think.
