Audio Discuss, What is Better soundcard or onboard audio? at International Chat: Software related forum; I have a Abit Max3 motherboard, and it has onboard 5.1 audio that works well. I also have soundblaster 5.1 pro, the Question I have does the onboard audio rob CPU compute cycles and would a soundcard do better not taking compute cycles or is it the same

Re: What is Better soundcard or onboard audio?

In that respect it's about the same as far as I know.

But onboard audio is inferior to a good soundblaster soundcard.

If your sound seems to be from a chipmunk then an addon sound card will bring it back to normal.

But simply downloading the proper drivers for your onboard sound will save you $15+ that you would otherwise be spending on a new soundcard there.
