UCC/EAN Code and IRSC - Needed? Hi all, using Plextools, I have the oprtion to burn audio cd's with CD Text, UCC/EAN Code and IRSC. I disabled all these options, thinking that I really don't need any of that (I don't even know what they should do). Could this cause any problems with CD Player compatibility? Are these options required for good disc recognition or playback quality? Thanks!

Re: UCC/EAN Code and IRSC - Needed? Plextools XL 3.13 with Plextor Premium 2 I don't know if it is a problem... I just disabled those three checkboxes (in AudioCD Maker). My thinking was that it could be unecessary information just taking up space on the disc... I can always turn thos options back ON. I'm trying to find out if having them OFF might cause any problems.... Like... are CD Players looking for UPC/EAN/IRSC on the disc? Should they find it? Yesterday I've had a little situation with one of these CD's (burned with UPC/EAN/IRSC OFF)... my CD Player would not recognize the CD. Tried inserting the disc 3 or 4 times, still nothing. Then I just turned the player OFF and then back ON, and from that point on it recognized the CD without any problems. Weird... It was the first time somthing like this happened with this CD Player. I was wondering... could this have something to do with me having the mentioned checkboxes unchecked?

Re: UCC/EAN Code and IRSC - Needed? Try both ways i guess and see if you can recreate this problem. I have no problems using all three settings=ON There are only a few of us here that have that drive. Right now i'm working on an external enclosure that giving me heck or i would try one with all three off. Gimme few and i'll try it.

| Re: UCC/EAN Code and IRSC - Needed? Here are some scans from a Maxell branded TY CD-R burned at 32X with PlexTool's Pro XL 3.13 using Audio CD Maker. UCC/EAN Code and IRSC were disabled (left blank). I have no problem playing the CD. Even plays in both cars fine. Maybe someone else has an idea. Sorry i couldn't help ![]()

Re: UCC/EAN Code and IRSC - Needed? Thanks a lot for trying to help Does any one know if any of these parameters "UPC/EAN/IRSC" is standard for Red Book CD's, and if any of them are supposed to be in ALL audio CD's out there?

That means, this information is only used for identifying commercially pressed music CDs. It is not mandatory at all. Just imagine, you do your own recordings and make an audio CD from that. Since you are not a manufacturing company, you won't have these codes at all. That said, your playback problems are due to some other issues like bad media, bad burner or just a picky player that can't handle CD-R discs well. Michael

Re: UCC/EAN Code and IRSC - Needed? Michael is correct in that UPC/EAN/IRSC are all optional. They are all part of the Red Book specification. Using these will take up absolutely no extra space on the disc since these are recorded in the subcode R-W channels that are present no matter what (maybe void of info though).

Re: UCC/EAN Code and IRSC - Needed? Thank you all very much for your help. So, I understand these codes are standard Red Book stuff, but they are not mandatory. Nice I was asked for a scan, this is my latest burn, it's funny because the jitter graph looks kind of weird, usually I get a much more stable graph around the 035 mark, but this time it starts really high and then starts dropping... Plexwriter Premium 2 AMQR 4x burn Plextor branded TY CDR All codes included, UPC, EAN, ISRC... Is this a good burn?
