Audio Discuss, MP3 encoding error? at International Chat: Software related forum; I am getting an error message after encoding MP3 files, and this is the log it gives me. This is my first time encoding files, so I have no idea what the problem is. The MP3 itself sounds fine, but I don't know why I am getting an error.

MP3 encoding error?

I am getting an error message after encoding MP3 files, and this is the log it gives me. This is my first time encoding files, so I have no idea what the problem is. The MP3 itself sounds fine, but I don't know why I am getting an error. I used Plextools 2.18 and a Plexwriter Premium to rip the tracks (if that helps any). Does anybody have any ideas?

Re: MP3 encoding error?

You are using an alpha version of LAME, i.e. a testing version: this could be the reason.
Try with a stable version like 3.90.3 or 3.96.1. You can find them here or here.

Hehe. I can't believe I didn't realize I downloaded an alpha version (especially reading over the log again). Can you tell me why the second site you listed recommends 3.90.3, as opposed to the latest stable release?

Re: MP3 encoding error?

Well, this is a very good question... but I don't have an answer!

Some say that version 3.90.3 is older but carefully tested and reliable, some othey say that 3.96.1 is a mature version
which corrects also some serious bugs of previous versions, including those of 3.90.3 (you have to check version history),
hence preferable...

I have tried both and for me both are good... Currently I have 3.96.1 for the few MP3 I encode...

Maybe someone else here will be able to tell you something more technically oriented!

Regards,

ET

Re: MP3 encoding error?

Well, thanks for the info. I am going to give 3.96.1 a try.
