Interesting: working Music CD not read in CD drive I have a very interesting scenario. Usually, music CDs burned on a computer may sometimes have a problem being recognized in a standalone player. Not for me. I have an apparently normal music CD, which is not recognized as a formatted disk in the CD drives of PCs (Win XP and Vista) and Mac (OSX), but plays perfectly fine in my standalone CD player. When putting it in the computer, the disk is not recognized (error: no disk) at all. I am not sure, but is this a new method of copy-protection? Can someone please enlighten me on this? ![]()

Re: Interesting: working Music CD not read in CD drive No, it is a pressed one - I think; what I mean is that it is a regular CD bought from a regular music CD store (such as the Virgin Megastore, for example). I am glad that you mentioned ISOBuster, which I own (v.1.9.1) and use regularly to extract raw tracks to WAV files. But for this particular CD, ISOBuster did not recognize (just like the different OSs) that there was a disk inserted. My drive is fine, in case you are wondering, because it reads all other disks fine. Strange, isn't it? I hope you can give me some idea!

Re: Interesting: working Music CD not read in CD drive ic , what cd is it exactly? (artist/album title) , have a look at the back of the jewl case (cd box) , do you see any text regarding protection? , if you have a digital camera take pictures of the disc itself (on both of its sides) and the back of the jewl case it might help figuring it out , is this cd made by sony? , search "sony copy protection tape" in google without the quotes..

Re: Interesting: working Music CD not read in CD drive That's the problem this is not a CD made by Sony/BMG or any company that you would readily recognize. It was manufactured in India (Just for comparison, Sony India Inc. CDs made in India never had even their rootkit type protection). The producer is called RPG Music, an Indian label which bought the Indian franchise of the old His Master's Voice (HMV, the avatar of the British Gramophone Company in the Commonwealth countries). The CD itself is of rural Indian folk music, and I can see no reason why the company would go to such great lengths to put copy protection on it. I like your idea of taking photographs of it. I would try that out. The rim of the CD does mention the name of another company, which turned out to be the company that mass produced the CDs in bulk. Let me get back to you after I take the images. Thanks for your help.
