Increasing volume of ripped/copied CD's

Is it possible to increase the volume level of ripped tracks or a copied CD so that the individual tracks or copies are louder?

I use an MP3 player on my cycle (thru the Aux jack) and it is often difficult to hear certain songs. I have the volume up all the way on the MP3 and all the way on the cycle's stereo. When the cycle is off, the volume is very good but when I'm riding, I can't compete with the traffic and the pipes.

I use Nero software and Soundblaster Audigy 4 software for my playlists but am certainly willing to try anything that will allow me to crank up the volume on the copied tracks.

Thanks - Jeff

Try mp3 gain freeware allows you to alter decibels.

I converted an album to mp3 reset the levels, then burnt it as a wave and MP3 it was louder . Also keeps the new settings does not revert to original

Hope this helps

Outstanding - As I'm now facing winter in the Midwest (Wisconsin), I'll need to put the cycle away. That gives me some months to redo my collection.

Thanks Much

Another option is to get acquainted with SoundTrax and the integrated Wave Editor within Nero. ST will import MP3 and .cda files and enable you to edit them in wave editor. In ST as well as within the wave editor you can change volume levels, use an equalizer to bump up bass & adjust other frequencies. You can save your edited files. You can also mix a compilation of songs within SoundTrax & burn to CD, etc.

Hi, I've been using Wave Repair (at the suggestion of Gamma1 on this forum) and it allows you to normalise and equalise .wav files. I don't have a portable MP3 player, but have been using these functions to make compilation audio CDs for my car and overcome the problem of big volume changes between different tracks - mostly uploaded from vinyl. It works for me.
Software is available on proper trial period for free http://www.waverepair.com

Thanks for all the responses.

MP3 was a blessing. While it took approximately 15 minutes to analyze 1 GB of media, once it was analyzed, I could tweak the volume level and apply the changes in less than 30 seconds. Best of all, it never locked up once.

Re: Increasing volume of ripped/copied CD's

I thought listening on my cycle was bad but listening behind a lawn mower was the worst. Still, MP3 Gain did the job.

Interesting that many tracks were listed as being "clipped" indicating there might be a level of distortion because of the increased volume. I couldn't sense it.
